Another fault

Suday afternoon - TANKING up the M6 , just gone past Corley services and up the hill - quite windy & doing approx 90mph in the outside lane when ... Censored ck what the hell was that Shocked Shocked Shocked

Loud noise - heart in throat - Sad

Too my surprise the trim on the drivers side "A" post had come off and was hanging on [ just ] at the bottom where it dissapears below bonnett level.

I couldn't stop so I lowered the window fractionaly & continued on holding it in place to prevent any damage or loss. I eventually left the motorway with frozen hand and pulled over to check what had happened Rolling Eyes .... it had simply popped off Shocked although it would appear that the trim is missing one of its fixings at the lower end , so having thumped it back on / into its housings I will be off to the dealer later today to get it replaced Evil or Very Mad

Has anyone else had this happen ?

Sorry to hear that MDP.. glad you didn't loose it all together and were able to hold on for dear life! any damage apart from it coming off?

Hopefully not a big job, but worrying that bits are coming apart when you're tanking it..

There is a Technical bulletin about water ingress due to the A pillar trim coming loose

It is called
No.LS501-006
16 August 2005
Water Ingress via A-Pillar Exterior Trim or A-Pillar Trim Adrift

A customer may report a concern of the illumination of miscellaneous warning lamps and/or water in footwell.

Cause : Water ingress through the lower slot in the body A-pillar, where the A-pillar exterior trim lower location peg locates.
Action : Should a customer express concern regarding the above, refer to the Service Procedure detailed in this bulletin.

Basically there is a small plastic peg that is part of the A pillar trim that inserts itself into the A pillar, the fix seems to be to remove this peg and seal the hole with a patch and then replace all the clips etc and the trim. L319 D4 HSE

Or potentially a loose HVAC hose that pi**es water into your footwell from behind the centre console... this has been reported here on a couple of occasions Very Happy

Thanks Adam,

It would appear [ looking back at the incident ] that this fix has already been done on mine then - because I inspected the trim closely before refitting it & spotted that the lowest of all the fixings was in fact missing!

It has been reported to the dealer and they will look at this when it goes in for repair again on 10/4

1. Sort why still getting "bong" for suspension fault etc etc
2. Investigate/cure why I am getting a vibration/knock through steering column
3. Solve the mystery "A" post trim affair
4. Investigate & solve the annoying rattle from somewhere behind me "B" post or rear door or..???

I also had the steering/vibration knock and my dealer replaced some lower part of the steering assembly , which has fixed it .

Some to add to the list:

6CD player stuck on Saturday between disc 1 (Val Doonican) and disc 2(Barry Manilows greatest hits)

My favourite of the 2 is Barry Manilow by a nose.

Also, rear passenger side seatbelt is really noisy.

CD player miraculously started working again on the way to Gaydon on Sunday!?! Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad
