and from what I hear the tax system in Aus is now more advantageous to us Brits! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

when you are on a temporary 4 visa (known as a 457) yes, you can pay your rent pre-tax and get a further ozzie tax benefit for living away from home.

Once you apply or come in on a permanent visa, then you are stuffed, the tax rate is far higher than the UK, its a whopping 48%

for any earnings above 70K AUD, which is approx 27K UK. Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

I took quite a shine to VB when I was out there, tried a few other "local" brands but nothing too great. Even your Guinness tastes different.

VB is not bad at all, in queensland you get more restricted, normally it has to be 4X GOLD. I normally get my guiness in a can, direct from Dublin according to the market splurb on the can

Hi Zilch,
Im in Sydney also, but not an ex-pat. Just picked up my Java Black RRS SC last Friday. (Bought it for myself for my Birthday)
Ever tried the Botany (4wd park) sand dunes? I take my D90 there now and then for some dune climbing.
