Continental 275/40 R 20 Tyres

Just a heads up to anyone fiting the Continental 275/40 R20 Tyre to make sure that they fit the right model as Continental make 2 versions of this tyre in this size.
The 275/40 R 20 is the one you want for your RRS NOT the 275/40 R 20 "NO" (as marked on the sidewall) which Continental designed specifically for Porsche. Continental told me that the NO version would last half as long as the regular version on an RRS which is backed up by a friend of mine who got through a new set of NOs in just under 9k miles!
More remarkable is that his first set of factory fitted Continentals lasted 25k miles and the NOs were fitted by a local reputable tyre fitter as part of a service by our local Land Rover dealer. Neither the Tyre fitter or the dealer were aware that 2 models existed.

Which Pirelli did you go for? I'm looking at what to put on next to replace the Goodyear Wrangler F1s that mine came with. They're ok in the dry but don't seem to like standing water very much. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I'm carefully avoiding Continentals for the RRS, so not an issue Wink '08 RRS TDV8

All Porsches have specific tyres made by the various tyre manufacturers. They are only for Porsche cars and are recongnised by the marking. N0, N1, N2, N3 etc

The higher the number, the later the incarnation of Porsche tyre. For example, on my 911 I have N1 tyres but they no longer make these so next time I have them changed, I will be looking at N3 tyres.

Similarly, on my wife's Audi, I look for tyres marked with AO which are specific tyres/rubber compound for Audi cars Proud owner of a 2008 TDV8 HSE.....and an Audi A3 2.0T DSG Cab and a Porsche 911 Turbo (Mercedes W208 320 CLK and Mercedes W124 E220 Estate now gone)

Are you aware of LR publication on this issue:

Issue.
A customer may report uneven tyre wear on
vehicles fitted with 20 inch wheels and
Continental 4x4 Sport Contact tyres.
Cause.
With reference to the photo attached, Due to
the tread pattern design of this tyre, there can
appear to be inner or outer shoulder wear. This
is in fact just the natural tread wear, but as the
design of the lateral grooves continues around
to the sidewall, the very ends of the grooves do
not wear giving rise to a "band" of wear at the
edge of the contact patch.
Action.
No action is required for this issue as it is
deemed a characteristic of the tyre and not a
fault.

Having said that there was an earlier TSB - No.LS204-009V2 A customer may report a concern of uneven tire wear.

Cause: Certain vehicles may experience a degree of 'bush settle' after the initial geometry setting following production (this has now been compensated for using calculated geometry settings introduced from the VIN above). This 'bush settle' may change the geometry settings to outside of normal tolerance and may increase tire wear. This issue is not experienced on all vehicles and the toe sensitivity may be attributed to other factors.
Action: Should it become necessary to adjust vehicle geometry due to specific complaints of tire wear, or where the components detailed below have been changed, the geometry should be set to the target values detailed in this bulletin. These target values are within the geometry specifications detailed in the workshop manual but are purposely detailed to address the above concern.

Target Values
Adjustment
Specification (degrees/minutes)
Front total toe
0° 02'
Left-hand rear toe
0° 11'
Right-hand rear toe
0° 11'
Rear total toe
0° 22'

NOTE: The air suspension tight tolerance mode should be activated when checking/setting geometry (refer to the procedure on GTR).

Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Mr. Green
