Computer Code Access

Dear all,
I was wondering if anybody knows how to access the onboard computer to see if there any current faults? Or is it done by the the dealer/garage only?

Hi Vadim
You can't access fault codes without specialist equipment. Options are main dealers with LRs kit, independants who mainly use Autologic kit or buy your own from someone like Blackbox Solutions or Bearmach.

The reason I am asking this is that, I got my RRS a week ago, brand new S/C. I think I might have to book it in for a quick check since it seems that sometimes I get a slight delay in gas response too. The way it happens is that when I am going around 30mph, I hit the gas pedal, it speeds up to from 1.5 RMP to 3 RPM and then shoots of like crazy (which is nice). It takes about 2- 3 sec for the whole process. I can clearly feel/see the difference of torque from 2RPM to 3RPM, then it goes like crazy after 3RPM. I was wondering if this is how it is supposed to be. It could be that once I hit the gas pedal is speeds up, realises it needs to change 1 gear down, does that and then shoots off? Because a similar thing happens when on motorway. hit the pedal, it goes 1 gear down, from 6 to 5 and shoots off then.

I read some people say it could be EGRs, but problem with EGRs, as far as I understand, is a delay between touching the gas pedal and vehicle taking off. I don't have that. My RRS reacts immediately to the gas pedal, but it just shoots off when it reaches 3000 RPMS (more or less).

Or perhaps I read too many things on this website and now just imagining it is happening to me. Other than that, I am very happy with the car.

Oh yeah, one more thing. This afternoon, I was on my way to gym, parked the car and decided to take a proper look around it. Went on my knees, had a proper look under the car etc etc etc. Get up on my feet, and I see this weird guy who pulled over his van right in front of my RRS. I think he was surprised to see me, since he did not realise I was there because I was on my knees under the car. "Nice car.." - he says. I replied thank you. Turned myself around and started walking towards the back of my RRS. The guy was still on the same spot, checking it out. He then asked me if I wanted to buy some parts, like TV, DVD player for my RRS. I turned around told him I was not interested. I realised something was wrong with this guy, so I just kept on walking towards the back of my RRS but he kept on saying something else which I did not listen. Opened my car, got my cell phone out, he then drove behind and away from me. I turned around and took his reg number. While driving slowly away he showed me his finger out of the window lol, then stopped and started yelling something out of his car. I could not understand almost anything he said, but I did manage to catch "Get a grip, I just looked at your car" or something of that sort. So anyway, I got his reg and I think I am going to call the police and report the suspicious weirdo. What I found even weirder is that his reg was not from UK. Vadim A.

Are you sure it's not exactly that, kick-down? Have you tried it from a standing start in first, or knocking it down manually as low as it will go before flooring it (the box won't let you change down too low so no worry about damaging the engine)? Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.8::MG Montego Turbo::MGB GT::Rover Sterling::MGF::MG ZT 190+

I went home and read the RRS owner's booklet and found that kick-down technqiue. It appears you are right, the behaviour I explained earlier is indeed the kick-down effect. Thanks! Vadim A.

Yes, it's a std pin, but not sure I trust the DTC readout - only seems to have very limited coverage.

That 753 hack was well documented for pre 10MY cars by Wiggs on Disco3.co.uk 3 years ago. Unless the Configuration and DTC options have been expanded for 10MY vehicles it only gives fault codes for the screen and nav system. Now if it gives access to all the systems' fault codes that would be interesting!
