Superchips

Hi All,

First post so be gentle!!

Taking my car to Superchips tomorrow to have the engine (3.0 TDV6) remapped. As they don't currently have a map for the MY10 Sport, they are keeping the car for a week to develop as they go. I'll report back with the results.

Regards
Keith

PS Tried to get some top-up engine oil yesterday. Dealer told me that I couldn't buy any yet as it was only available in bulk containers and that cans of the stuff would not be available till July. Seems odd on an engine that has already been around for a while!!

Looking forward to hearing these results. Maybe some of the other tuners might get a push on their maps now?

In conversation with the people at Superchips they said that the new 3.0 litre engine had caused some problems. The ECU could not be remapped via the diagnostic port so their Bluefin product was a non starter. It was going to have to be a remap of the ECU which would be non switchable. Just have to hope the dealer doesn't notice or that's the warranty out of the window!! Probably shouldn't have posted here jst in case. Ho Hum

Keith

I had a modded Evo before and the ECU was easy to get to and remove. Not sure how easy the RRS ECU is to get to but you could always get a second ECU to swop round if a warranty claim comes up.

Also don't see why they would have any need to read the ECU in the event of a warranty claim surely they would just write to in the need of any updates?

I wouldn't be online saying look at this Mr LandRover

especially on my 1st post, any links to you or the car can and have been used against warranty claim. One of the FL2 owners found out when his gearbox failed and LR had been informed by a disgruntled dealer he had slagged out online

Being done for free. This will be the third car of mine that Superchips have done from new. I have always felt very well looked after and the cars have always shown a marked improvement both in performance and economy. Just not the two things at the same time!!

Have always told the insurance companies what I do and they have always covered it, at a price. As far as warranty is concerned "if you can't take a joke, you shouldn't have joined".

I would only have myself to blame if it all goes wrong, and I can live with that.

That is the way to view it, and good to see you going into it with your eyes wide open, as you have done in the past.

As Richard says, make sure you tell us how you get on!

Well, just to report back,

35BHP increase from 247@3817RPM to 282@4116RPM
67Nm torque increase from 587Nm@1927RPM to 654Nm@2520 RPM

Car now drives more like a petrol engined car, power drop off is more gradual rather than a sudden brick wall, but the best thing for me is the absence of throttle lag. When I first got the car it was noticable that if you floored the throttle from standstill there was a momentary wait before anything happened. If you went back 25 years it was as if your throttle cable had snapped! Don't seem to get that now. The only disappointment is that MPG hasn't changed much, if at all. That said I have yet to get back to my version of "normal motoring". All the recent journeys have been to new destinations so the comparison may not be valid. Overall, very pleased. Superchips said that there was more power available but it would mean that the engine would start to smoke and that wasn't in their game plan. Be interesting to see what they could get if it was taken as far as it would go without creating a time bomb. On the motorbike front we had a race tuned Yamaha R1 that was more or less in British Superbike trim, but it only had a track time of 300Km between rebuilds!! 2 track days and that was more or less it.

Regards to all
