Sat Nav Aerial - where is it?

Hi guys

Been having intermittent problems with my satnav for a while. Keeps losing the GPS signal, especially when it's raining. Having fiddled around with every connection and even changed the DVD disk, I eventually bought a cheap after-market magnetic GPS aerial, stuck it on the roof and plugged it into the back of the satnav unit under the passenger seat in place of the normal aerial connection. Bingo, everything working perfectly again Very Happy

Whilst this has temporarily fixed the problem, I would like to locate the original GPS aerial and fix it or replace it. I heard a rumour that it's somewhere in the tailgate spoiler?

Does anyone know if that's correct and if so, how to gain access? I can't see any easy way to get into the spoiler but maybe I'm missing something obvious.

Any tips gratefully received.

Robin

I always thought it was in the sharks fin on the roof. However i am not sure if i have been told that of if it is just me assuming that is where it is.

That's correct Thumbs Up The Roof Fin housed both the Sat Nav & Mobile Phone Aerials until the 2010 model
which now only has the Bluetooth Connection for phones and hence a smaller roof aerial for the Satnav alone. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

No, It's on the roof as per the pic on Warren G's reply. The one he's shown is the pre 2010 version. The current ones are smaller due to the lack of the Mobile Phone part. Cars without Satnav Do not have the Roof Fin fitted at all. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Ah ha. So it looks like I'll have to replace the whole sharks fin antenna assembly? Is it easy to remove? I guess I'll need to pull the headlining down at the back in order to gain access to the underside. Anyone done that?

Might be easier just to stick my new magnetic aerial on the roof just behind the sharks fin and route the cable through the top of the bootlid and splice it in to the cable under the headlining, assuming I can get access to it.

I shall report back once I've investigated further.

Thanks for the comments so far....

My current RRS is a MY09 but it is the shallower fin - if the BT is not in there now where is it?

Your BT phone module is hidden between the headliner and the roof. Wink Malaysia Boleh!

I wasn't reffering to the BT module. The Aerial Fin on the roof of pre 2009 cars held a seperate Aerial for the Mobile Phone which was connected when your mobile was physically plugged in to the Phone Cradle which used to be located under the flip cover of the centre console tray/fridge assembly. When the phone was connected via this cradle it did not use BT at all. Since the 10MY edition of the car (maybe also 09MY, but I'm not sure) it has been done away with and the car now ONLY uses BT hence the smaller roof top Fin.
Hope this clears up the confusion. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Shrinky, that's a very helpful pic, thanks for posting it. Do you happen to know which cable is the satnav/gps aerial, pink or blue?
