Does anyone else think that the RRS Sat Nav is crap?

I have the OEM Sat Nav in my 2009 RRS.

On routes that I know well, if I select route guidance (for grins) it never takes me the way that I would logically take. For example, it will try to take me off the freeway and onto main roads, whatever the "route choice" selection.

Its not bad at getting you to the final address but it is not so good at long routes which means I tend only to activate as I am getting close.

I am thinking of getting a Tom Tom cradle instead for the iPod touch and not even using the Engish Sheila who doesn't seem to know where she is going!

Yes, It's rubbish. It's been discussed a few times on the forum.

Strangely enough, The issue MUST be with the routing algorithems
and interface software because the actual mapping data is Navtech,
which is the same as was used for my Garmin Sat Nav which never
had any of the issues that the LR system has. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Yep its certainly crap on our 2007. Keeps taking us off main roads onto B roads and unclassified roads to save the odd minute in time. I now keep our old Garmin in the glove box and use that more often than not - it never gets it wrong. Banging Head FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

even with the 2009/2010 disk it is still c**p

was out with the D3 mob at Kielder Forest and the RRS sat nav didn't have any of the tracks that we were on, but the wife's TomTom Go910 was always displaying which road we were on and some of them were just muddy tracks on the hillside. Never thought about using the TomTom for forestry tracks but was really surprised that they were all on it Thumbs Up Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

No Nick M i think mine is fine too, the sat nav will always get you there maybe sometimes using main roads instead of short cuts but if you have local knowledge then use it and the sat nav will correct itself. My BMW X5 sat nav was exactly the same, but nowhere near the features and options of the Rangey system. Crap? No I wouldn't go that far and it's always got me where I wanted to go but I'd agree that it does sometimes choose some rather odd routes compared to what I would choose from local knowledge or a map. Gordon Kerr

I didn't like it at first, having come from the BMW system but got used to it pretty quickly. I thought it was OK, knowing that it's no replacement for a human brain and a map Whistle

Haven't used Merc or Audi in a while, but was always a big fan of idrive on BMW's.....wasn't hard to use like most people thought......

Prefer the richer colour on the new MY 10 RRS nav though......

I have 2009/10 discs and even with these it's poor.

The interface and route planning is terrible. Here in Sweden the postcode system is not the best, a postcode can span a whole village at times, so you have to refer to street input which is a pain.

In addition to this, I try to input a street name which it tells me does not exist so I have to use one close by. As I approach my destination, the damn street appears there written on the screen Banging Head

I have a 6 yr Navman from UK with original maps and it runs rings round the RRS system in all aspects.

Hope the MY2010 system is a vast improvement?

think the SATNAV is basically Ok and does what it should. Discussed on other threads about the ETA being out, but mine seems fairly reliable and adjusts well, not sure about the "diversion" routes to avoid conjestion, and dont like the post code input not taking the last 2 digits, sure the previous version did, this way it can only get you nearly there, whats the point in that Question purple people eater
