Sourcing lubricants & fluids

The other day when checking my low coolant, I saw that the powered steering fluid was on the minimum mark. The manual states this should be “Texaco 14315 Cold Climate PAS fluid”. I tried to find this locally (Halfords, local motorist shop), but could not and we have no Texaco garages locally. I therefore ended up at the LR dealer and a 1ltr bottle of LR branded fluid cost £10+VAT.

Now looking through the manual, I see that the fluids used are all sorts of brands. Oil and antifreeze is Castrol, gearbox oils are Shell and Castrol, powered steering & dynamic response is Texaco and brake fluid is Shell. When you’re topping something up, I would suppose you really want to be using the same stuff that is already in the car. I wonder if the LR dealers do the same or the LR branded bottles you buy from the LR dealers are actually the same brand? Matt
