Vehicle trackers and a few other Qs

Having read some other posts i am keen to fit a tracker question is, is it worth it and can anyone recommend.
The tailgate seems to be difficult to close it kind of half locks dont think it should be slammed also is there an electric closer for the tailgate that can be fitted (wifey is not the tallest and its a strech. Im sure there will be more questions in the future. Anyway seems a good car we got I dont think i have ever felt so chilled driving a car before. 2007 RRS V6 2.7 SE

I always think a tracker is a bit personnal. I had on on our RRS because it made quite a differenc eon our insurance quotes, but in our new post code it makes F all difference, so a bit pointless. If it gets nicked, i'd rather it dissapeared and the insurance gave me a new one, I don't want it if some scrote has been riding in it.

Hi Dave,

The tailgate has an electric assist closure, not the type you are talking about for the wife but when you pull
the tailgate down to close it you only have close it gently and the lock mechanism pulls it fully closed itself.
As for the type of full electric assist you need for the wife, My Mrs has the same complaint but as far as I am aware there is no system available. Personally I think this is very short sighted of LR but hey.... You buy an LR you buy into their quirks Confused Whistle 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Does it? Not that I've properly tried it but didn't think it did and I have the same issue of shutting it and it not shutting properly so reopening and having to slam it shut.

Well, My 2007 definately had it and I never had a problem with it. My new 2010 also has it.
I'm not sure if it has always been on the cars though, maybe earlier years didn't get it. Have a look
in your user manual, it should tell you if your car has it or not. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

DJ your car might be pre-soft close I think it only came into the spec sheet in 2007! To see if you have it pull the rear hatch down gently until about an inch from closed and then let it fall without you pushing. The hatch will pull itself closed the last inch and lock itself. There is a video somewhere in the forum if you use the search with soft+close+boot as the search title 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

If the car was fully covered for a full replacement then I agree but insurance companies will try everything possible to minimise their cost.

From one of your previous lines of work you should remember PAKNET, Tracker was built on top of the Paknet system and I installed the first mobile Paknet system in Scotland, used it for sending data and positioning information from the first CCTV Incident Command Vehicle we built back to a central station. Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

Alicatt, hope you are well.

My concern is that my supplier is using a GSM / GPS based product which can be blocked by the use of this type of unit http://www.navigadget.com/index.php/2007/01/29/gps-and-gsm-jammer and once the car is in a container the jammer is switched off therefore making it invisible to detection from initial theft. I am going to ask my supplier if they have any technology built in to safe gauard against this method of jamming.
