United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
Faults appearing already!!!

Had the car just over a week now and got a couple of faults already Big Cry

First one being a knocking at front when going slow over bumps and potholes etc. Will get it booked in to look at this one.

Second is when I pull off with handbrake on it releases but not properly so I get a squeaking from the rear. Seems to be ok if I release it from the switch tho.

Third is squeaky brake pads. Not sure if this is a standard thing on them as it was on my Evo dependent on what pads were used.

Fourth is that yesterday I did a little off road playing and used the different settings (Mud ruts & Low range etc) and when finished noticed that the screen had gone on the stereo. Parked up and when I came back to the car and restarted it was fine.

Anyone experienced any of the above except the knocking ofcourse as I know there will be loads that have experienced that Thumbs Up

Thanks

Adam

My advice on the handbrake (EPB) is Don't bother using it! They are prone to seizing and at the end of the day you really don't need it under normal day to day use. When the car is in "Park" on the gear lever there is a bloody great bolt that locates through the flywheel and therefore the car is going nowhere anyway! (well according to the LR Assist techie that came out to my 2007 HSE when it's EPB seized on anyway) I've never engaged the EPB since and have had no problems, even though my driveway is on a slope! Points 2 & 3 could be related to point 4. You might have some grit or a small stone lodged in between break pads 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

EPB had a redesign for 2007MY cars, same as D3 - I have not had one time when it seized on with the TDv8 whereas it happened a lot with my 2005 TDv6. I use it whenever I stop at traffic lights for any length of time and whenever I park. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

When you guys say seizing on, was it completly where as you couldnt go anywhere and wouldnt release at all resulting in calling out LRA?

Yes, mine was a complete seizure and it actually resulted in the pads disintegrating! Shocked Which, according to the LRA chap is a design feature so they don't seize on and cause a spin out!! He claimed this had happened to him in an RRS at 30mph on a wet road and it spun him! Shocked Hence why I never use the damn thing now, plus just don't want the hassle if it does go wrong - but that's just my opinion. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Was offroading a couple of weeks ago and stopped on a steep-ish incline so I could get out and guide the car following through a tricky rock crawl. As soon as I engaged the EPB there was a horrid squealing sound from the front left and then warning lights lit up the dash with a park brake failure warning.

The EPB jammed on and would not initially release. Turned the car off and on a couple of times and was eventually able to drive off.

Have since had it in for inspection and was informed by the service manager that there is a faulty design with the EPB Motors which has recently been superceded with a completely new unit which is now on back order from the UK. Apparently it's a very common fault.

As I understand it though, the new design units have only been available for a few months so anyone who had their unit replaced previously, actually only received a replacement of the old unit with inherent design faults. 'Black Betty' Java Black RRS 07 TDV6

Jimmy - I had the same last Mar whilst offroading around Dargo. Convoy had kicked up a lot of dust over a prolonged period, so I assumed this was the cause. As you did I turned off and on and all was well and not a problem since!

One of my friends in a 'Pootrol' asked if I'd run over a cat when they heard the squeal! Shocked Laughing
