My advice on the handbrake (EPB) is Don't bother using it! They are prone to seizing and at the end of the day you really don't need it under normal day to day use. When the car is in "Park" on the gear lever there is a bloody great bolt that locates through the flywheel and therefore the car is going nowhere anyway! (well according to the LR Assist techie that came out to my 2007 HSE when it's EPB seized on anyway) I've never engaged the EPB since and have had no problems, even though my driveway is on a slope! 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

Points 2 & 3 could be related to point 4. You might have some grit or a small stone lodged in between break pads 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

EPB had a redesign for 2007MY cars, same as D3 - I have not had one time when it seized on with the TDv8 whereas it happened a lot with my 2005 TDv6. I use it whenever I stop at traffic lights for any length of time and whenever I park. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

When you guys say seizing on, was it completly where as you couldnt go anywhere and wouldnt release at all resulting in calling out LRA? |

Yes, mine was a complete seizure and it actually resulted in the pads disintegrating! Which, according to the LRA chap is a design feature so they don't seize on and cause a spin out!! He claimed this had happened to him in an RRS at 30mph on a wet road and it spun him! Hence why I never use the damn thing now, plus just don't want the hassle if it does go wrong - but that's just my opinion. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black 2013 Evoque 5 Door Pure Tech SD4 - Orkney Grey with Panoramic Roof (Mrs E's new baby) GONE - RRS - 3.0 TDV6 HSE - Santorini (2010) GONE - RRS - 2.7 TDV6 HSE - Java Black (2007) GONE - Porsche Boxster S - 3.2 - Black |

Was offroading a couple of weeks ago and stopped on a steep-ish incline so I could get out and guide the car following through a tricky rock crawl. As soon as I engaged the EPB there was a horrid squealing sound from the front left and then warning lights lit up the dash with a park brake failure warning.

Jimmy - I had the same last Mar whilst offroading around Dargo. Convoy had kicked up a lot of dust over a prolonged period, so I assumed this was the cause. As you did I turned off and on and all was well and not a problem since!
