I need to know the correct spec of wheel nut I should use on my late 2005 RRS. I am fitting MY2010 20" alloys and need to know the correct nut to use. (yes, I have steering damper model, so should take 20" ok - phew!!).

Why not drop them a line with the question on the email addy on the advert or have you done that?

To be fair, they sell wheel nuts for all vehicles, so they will not be experts on RRS. Furthermore, I am fitting non standard wheels to a production vehicle, so they will have no chance, short of guessing. With near on 3 tonnes hammering down the motorway, I want to feel 100% safe in getting the right ones, and there are some very techie guys on here who will know for sure.

Don't know what the change was but from 05MY up to 08MY at VIN 8A130279, non locking nuts are LR part no RRD500290 but for cars after that they fitted RRD500590. That includes 10MY. Clearly there is a difference between 05MY and 10MY nuts but whether it's just cosmetic or something more important I don't know.

Locking nuts are now RRB 500120 for all VINs.

LR are not so helpful on this. They said you shouldn't fit MY2010 20" alloys to pre MY2010 cars. Therefore they would not suggest a nut to use. The reason appears to be linked to this random fitment of the steer damper (some cars have it so don't depending on which they had available at the time of manufacture - not recorded against the VIN!).

Mine has the steering damper, but they are still not interested in suggesting a nut. There was a Service Bulletin about customers requesting fitment of 20" alloys on pre MY2010.

So therefore I come back to my trusted RRS experts on this forum for help....

Phone your dealer or another, lie about the scenario and tell them you want a set of spares


Now this may be a daft question but why can you not use the nuts holding your current wheels on

Maybe I could use the current ones, but it all became very confusing when I first asked the question way back when. First I needed spacers or shims, then not. Then I could use my existing wheel nuts if they were 'bright ones' not 'dull' ones - or the other way around - now I have no idea.

So I thought the best option was to just buy a new set and be done with it, but it's becoming a bit more complicated. Maybe I will fit them next week when it goes into the main stealer for service and ask them to check the wheel nuts as a general request (they don't know me or my car as I have been asking another LR dealer ).

No problem with putting my 19" wheels on with the wheelnuts from the 20's......................... in 2 winters no 19" wheels have fallen off and there hasn't been any damage to the wheels BUT they are both pre-2010MY wheel designs 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
