Usually my trip computer readings are 10-15% more optimistic to tank measurements.
My latest trip to Bavaria (a total of 2500 kms) in different roads and conditions (rain, snow mountains, city, autobahn) returned 10,2 lt/100km real consumption. 2009 Range Rover Sport 2.7 TDV6 SE, Alaska White, Almond leather, tinted windows, active rear diff, tow pack, HiICE, full spare: gone and already missed

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE Buckingham Blue

Over 36700 miles since purchase in Feb 08, my TDV6 has averaged 23.54 mpg. Very rarely better than 25 or worse than 19. Best was 32, worst 16. This includes a fair amount of towing.

What horrifies me is that I've put in 7095 litres of fuel and it all works out at 23.48 pence per mile (fuel only) Shocked Shocked Shocked

According to the computer......23-26 mixed driving (70% town) and on a decent run up to Scotland for example, around the 29-31pmg mark (sitting at slightly higher than legal imits on the motorways...). I confess to not having worked out the real figures as yet.....

Out of interest, for those people with TDV6 and TDV8 models, do you bother paying extra for Optimax or Ultimate Diesel or just use 'normal' diesel...?

I had an Alpina D3 (Diesel) for a while and ran it on the good stuff and it definitely felt slighly more responsive for it and I'm convinced my RRS TDV6 runs better on the premium stuff than normal...I may of course just be completely dillusional!

I've always used the petrol equivalent with performance petrol cars and definitely noticed slight mpg improvement and sharper response with a couple of cars, but curious to hear people's thoughts on the diesel?

My Tdv8 averages 28-30mpg on the trip computer driving out in the countryside where I live which used to equate to 26-28'ish when I was keeping a spreadsheet going. I have given up on the spreadsheet these days as it was getting monotonous it was so regular! HOWEVER, during this recent cold spell it has fallen to around 25mpg on the trip computer mainly due to lots of use of the front heated screen to clear snow/ice and heated seats. Adding a heated steering wheel would drop it further! I don't do very much town driving so I don't have a figure for stop start trickling round town type motoring. On long trips (more than 200 miles) then I can see the trip numbers clicking up as the comsumption falls, diesels are best at steady rpms and long trips, they don't perform at their best in stop start town driving with widely varying revs

I did try running on Optimax/Vpower but found that it didn't make enough difference for the extra price - the biggest difference is to use branded (Shell/BP/Esso/Jet etc) as opposed to supermarket diesel. I couldn't tell you the last time I put supermarket diesel in the tank, some time in the winter of 2008 I think. I don't know what they put in the stuff that the oil majors sell but my car definitely runs smoother and better on it! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Italy 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

My TDV8 averages 22 to 25 mpg rarely below 21 but nearly never over 25....... but living and driving in the Italian way may be the cause of it Whistle

Last year in october, did a quick weekend trip up to Angel's house to pick up some wheels, the average consumption was 24.7 with and average speed of 72MPH!!! this was including drives through the centres of Stutggart and Munich.

I find that if the the drive is under 20 miles, your consumption does not recover from warming up, and in cold weather the webasto heater.. RRS TDV8 HSE 2007- JAVA Black/Black interior,

Mostly town driving for me, so stays around 21mpg, however towing the carbuncle on motorway all way to Pembroke (300miles), still returned 21's, think my old Disco dropped to around 13's when towing. purple people eater

When we sold ours I did the calc for ownership and ours averaged just over 31mpg, that was 27k in 12 months. I did use the car for a period when I used the car for the school run rather than the MRs usign it for her commute and it dropped to just below 26mpg for that period.

Hi Simon

Your fuel consumption is close to mine and I note that some posts on the site say they get 330 miles (in town) between fill ups and they are claiming 21 mpg. This is not correct. I filled up today. 77 litres = 16.96 gallons. I covered 320 miles. so, this is 18.87 mpg. Heavy town driving. Ignore what the trip computer is telling you - its bullshit. My computer says I got 23 mpg!

There you go.

PS, I am happy with my fuel consumption. The car is fab, it's heavy and I don't drive it for economy.
