Another FAKE Supercharged...

Sad

What are they growing on trees or something? And why do they ALWAYS park up next to mine at the supermarket??

This time it was Asda in Thurmaston, Leics, and a Java black TDV6 HSE, all the usual stuff aswell as the SC badge on the boot.... He had a private plate and I guess his name was JOE Wink

If it was my car and I knew it was a fake, I certainly would not then park next to the real thing. It would be like parking your MR2 based Ferrari 355 kit car next to a real 355, just a bit humiliating, no? L319 D4 HSE

I know I know...just chafes a bit when you see people really trying their hardest to pretend it is what it isn't.

Grille/vents/alloys swap, agree with, makes the cars look better, and that's Landrover's fault for not making the HSE alloys look good enough that people want to keep them, and also for not making the SC look different enough.

To my mind it should have had a bulge in the bonnet like the M3 to show off the fact it has a huge SUPERCHARGED V8 underneath, and perhaps slightly different lower body mouldings and exclusive alloys. Things that would cost too much to retro fit onto another car.

MDP's right, they ALL look the same now that everyone is upgrading bits, soon enough it will be the standard HSE parts that look exclusive.

I tell you what you don't see much, the 17" alloys, they'll be next! L319 D4 HSE

Fair point, although I'd stop at replacing your HSE lettering with a SC badge... that's the same as sticking an M3 badge on the boot of your 318 (and not even bothering replacing the bonnet, wheels, wings, exhausts, seats, SMG gearstick, pale grey speedo dials and anything else that makes an M3 visibly different from a standard 3 series coupe) Wink

EXACTLY!!

Like when I had the M5 and saw people with a noddy looking 520 which they added a crap bodykit, fake M5 alloys (with no offsets so they looked daft) Alpina or AC Schnitzer wing mirrors (that never appeared on ANY M5s) and of course, the all important M5 badge on the boot.

I came up alongside such a car on the M40 one day, even same colour as mine, I looked at the driver and you could tell he felt like sinking into his seat.... Embarassed

I dropped a cog and left him for dead. Ner Ner L319 D4 HSE

I agree the SC badge is a step too far, too much effort IMO. Confused

A subtle bonnet bulge would look cool Something else is always something better:

Fair point i get what your saying when i had my alpina B10 i had two guys come up to me as was parking up to see if was a fake then they see the V8 Cool

RRUK you say about people try to make there HSE look like they are S/C but a lot of us on here say that the s/c bits look better and thats why they go for them but yes a lot of ppl will try to make there cars look like S/c and say that they are when there not

i'v ordered the Dynamic Pack for my car and it comes with 20'' s/c i'm not trying to make it look like s/c it's just what on offer RRS TDV6 Gone but still around

To be perfectly honest - If I had chosen the TDV6 ( very nearly did ) I would have specked it with dynamic pack - changed the grills/vents - added the JE Engineering exhaust - had it chipped - changed to black badges = JOB DONE

That leaves 2 things (a) The lump under the bonnet (b) the seats are perferated in the supercharged

You'd have to look REAL close Wink

Jaymann,

I have no issues with all of those things, the one thing that does annoy me is Badging it as a SC when it is is not.

Just that one badge makes all the difference to me. L319 D4 HSE

I agree.

I have the upgraded vents and grill, simply because i think the contrasting silver looks better then the grey on my Java Black colour, also think the Black LR badges look better, hence had them changed, but even though i considered a Supercharged badge before my RRS arrived last year, i stopped at that, as its going too far.

Its the same as all the max power crew you see around. Even funnier when you look at the classifieds, i.e. J Reg 1992 Ford Fiesta 1.3 L, RS Turbo lookalike, 000's spent, all receipts, 150k on the clock, £200 ono.

Whats the point? may as well stick that money towards actually buying the model that you are pretending to be in, in the first place!

My first Bmw was a 2001 Bmw 318Ci 2.0 51 plate model, and i spent a few hundred quid getting an M3 lip putting on, and an AC Schnitzer roof spoiler, and then tinted the rear windows gradual tint to the front. As well as some more minor mods and changes. I then swapped the car over to the 330 the next year, and realised for the time i actually kept the car for, i may as well have stuck the money towards the deposit for the 330 and kept the 318 the way it was, as it wasn't worth doing the extra mods to.
The salesman who did the pex summarised it for me, you haven't put any value on the car for yourself for part ex, even on private sale, all you have done is make the car easier to sell for us as its got higher spec then the next 318 in the line.

Yep, v true. I think some of the ACS kit on BMWs looks really good though as long as it all hangs together properly. I went on a BMW event a couple of years ago and they had a few cars from their press fleet there, a lot of which had ACS trimmings (a fully ACS'd 7 series looked very good!) but when you get what we've been describing it's a) silly looking and b) financially pointless as you found out Kam... Max Power magazine should have a new strapline... "You're wasting your time, fools."
