I was told by a dealer that only on 2006 models can you retro-fit 20" wheels and above.

Apparantly, they have modded the steering rack to accomodate the new optional Dynamic pack, instead of having to modify the rack as part of each individual dynamic pack - If that makes sense. Exclamation Question Exclamation

Could this be a contributing factor to the car pulling to one side? Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

There's a GTR doc that shows affected owners (and their ill informed service depts) how to determine whether they have a damped or non-damped steering rack and then how to get it replaced. All SCs to date have shipped with the damped steering rack, to my knowledge but it was a lottery as to whether your non-SC got one. That said, there are also folks on non-damped racks with 20in wheels and no problems... go figure.

This is an RRS forum, not Mark III, so didn't want to distract from the serious goings on here!! Laughing

No decent pics as yet as it is always dirty, mind you I managed to get it in the garage the other day, so there is hope for a bit of ploishing action come the Spring.

Sold the 2005 XKR, bought a 2 year old 4.4 Vogue Rangie, plus a 3.0ltr Jag X-Type Sport and still had £10k left over!

These things are cheap. Still deliberating the RRS thing for next year, then again may get the S/C RR??

Just need to get the windows tinted. Anyone know someone good in Surrey?

Got my car back from the dealers,
The nocking noise is gone, the anti roll bar bushes and compressor has been replaced.
The steering now has a stiff spot from the centre position to either side, left or right. The car is still pulling to one side.
Worst of all the interior wind noise is worse than ever, it really does sound like a rear passenger window is open a couple of mm. Its out there somewhere. Second V10 Treg on the drive at the moment.

Biggles,
Have you considered asking for a new car? I don't recall what the precise laws are, but under certain circumstances, even after a prolonged period, you can "reject" your car and demand either a replacement or a full refund.
It may be worth talking to your solicitor.
Having spent £47,000, you deserve much, much better.
Good luck.
Paul

A friend of mine had major problems with a 3 series convertible. One of which was both the roof and front windows would regularly fail.

Dealer tried three times to fix it and after failing on the third attempt he was entitled to refuse the car as it was "Not of saleable quality"

I'd double check but I'm sure this was what his solicitor advised.

Hope this helps Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Super, that BM problem was the exact same with my brother-in-law's 3 series convertable................ it happened to be the first brand new he had ever bought in 27 years of motoring and calling evrybody who bought new cars mad!

The 1st 6 months of ownership his car was on the road for 3 weeks all the rest BM were trying to fix it. They even replaced it with a new one for free but then that too had major roof/ window problems - after 3 goes he asked for his money back and bought an ex-demo 330TD with all the toys from the dealer - he's happy as Larry now but a) won't buy another BM again b) probably won't ever buy another new car!
