MY10 heated front & rear screens

Just noticed that the front and rear screens switch on automatically if temperature is low, which is fine if it is parked outside but seems a bit pointless when it has been parked in a garage or carport and windscreens are nice and clear which means I have to turn them both off each time I start in cold weather

Cant see anyway to turn this option off, I know I could ignore them being on for a while but just don't like anything being on unnecessarily.. Sad

Cant remember this being on my 2006 model unless I hadn't noticed the lights before as they are a little bigger and clearer now. Arrived - RRSport 2016 HSE SDV6 HSE

The other thing about running with them on unnecessarily is that you will have extra load on the alternator and therefore burn more fuel. They also don't come on automatically on my 2007MY TDv8 HSE 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

It doesn't give temperature figure in the manual, just says when it is low temperature, think it might be 5 degrees as that was when the little snowflake symbol used to show before in my 2006 model.

Didn't give any indication in the manual if you can turn off this option either, has anyone found out if you can? Arrived - RRSport 2016 HSE SDV6 HSE

It would be easier to press the two switches to turn it on when you need it Whistle

Good idea but it should be a selectable option really.. Wink Arrived - RRSport 2016 HSE SDV6 HSE

Think the heated mirrors are the same, only come on when its cold enough. IIRC pre 10MY they used to come on with the front screen.

This is taken from the 10MY Owners Hand Book

Quote:
HEATED SCREENS AND MIRRORS
Press button to operate the required screen
heater. The screen heater(s) will operate for a
timed period before automatically switching
off.
The screen heaters will be automatically
switched on if defrost mode is activated or if
the external air temperature is low.

Note: The screen heaters only operate when
the engine is running.
Exterior mirrors
The exterior mirrors automatically disperse ice
or mist. The mirror heaters are controlled
according to the external temperature and
wiper status.

Well as I have mentioned in another post I did quite a bit of driving today, stopping and starting a lot and every time I started her up on come all the heaters which you certainly don't need once the car is warmed up.

If they really want to make this a non selectable option they should have included some sort of sensors to tell when the car is warmed up as this must help drain battery power on multiple start ups in the cold when you probably need in most.

There I think I have moaned enough about this one, will shut up now.. Whistle Arrived - RRSport 2016 HSE SDV6 HSE
