Australia 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 SE Santorini Black

Hi Umberto,

I'm not expecting any info back now until mid-Jan, as most are off for the festive season, and Bowler will be pretty tied up with the Dakar next month. The last I heard from Matt (just before Christmas), was that no, the Compomotive rim won't fit the 2010 SC RRS (no surprise there) but they were about to check the 3.0 ltr cars, as Bowler are looking at using that model as a base for the new 2011 Nemesis.

I've so far got 6 'interested' parties for the GMAX forged alloy rims, so a bit to go to get to 15. The steel rims won't be available for testing until end of January.

Cheers,

Has anyone figured out if the Comps PD1880 fit over the non-Supercharged brakes of a 2010 RRS? Gordon, did you get any more feedback from Bowler on this? Tx.

Wasn't there some hoo-hah over whether Bowler actually sanctioned those Compomotive wheels anyway?

Yeah, the caliper anti-resonance blocks on the "old" (05-09) S/C Brembos would contact the inner PD1880 rims, so Compomotive did not "recommend" fitting them... But it was easy to flip the blocks around manually to get them to fit w/o other issues (which is what the guy in the above photo did.)

I was pestering them on a weekly basis up until this month. Matt replied and said he'd let me know as soon as they tried a fitting on the TDV6 - they tried the SC and (no surprise) it didn't fit.

I'm heading over to Melbourne next week and will be catching up with Dynamic 4x4 to measure up their new steel 18" and see if it will fit.

With regard to the GMAX custom rims, I've so far only got 6 interested parties, and they need a minimum order of 15 sets to do a production run.

Evening Gordon,

I put my name down with you a few weeks ago ref the GMAX rims. Just wondering how many of the 15 sets you currently have? (I'm probably now only a few months off needing new tyres, and would rather not buy 20" if we're close.) Does the new Disco have the bigger brakes now too? Hopefully that'll open up a bigger market huh!
Have a great week, hope to hear from you soon.
Cheers

Some news ...........

GMAX pulled out of the deal for the custom run - no available factory time.

I had the Italian Oz Racing 18" alloy rim sent over to test fit on a D4 3.0 Ltr at Trivets. NickW had mentioned that they advertised this rim as fitting "Discovery 4" models on their website. Unfortunately it didn't Crying or Very sad

Compomotive finally sent me a PD1880 rim all the way from the UK to test - it didn't fit either Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

However, I sent them back a modified engineering diagram of their rim showing what they would need to change to get it to fit, and they're considering if the changes could be made to their existing mold, so here's hoping.

Some photos of my MY2010 3.0 Ltr RRS with the custom steel 18" rims I had made:

http://www.myphotos.yahoo.com/s/215b551k5nq3ok69b2xd

These rims are for off-road use only - they're not load rated (yet!) and their offset makes them legal in my state, but not many other places in Australia.

Cheers,

looks great disco4x4au. Was there any reason to prefer the maxxis to the cooper ltz? Is the offset standard? Did you use a 9" or 9.5" rim? Do you have any comparative feedback between the new setup and the MTR's.

The Maxxis Bighorns are a mud terrain pattern - these tyres+rims will be for off-road use or 4WD Shows only. The offset is not standard (its +43mm) and I used an 8" rim. Tried them out this weekend and traction is far superior to the MTRs (as expected - I've used the Maxxis in competition work on my D3's). They really only fit with the suspension raised (via shortened height sensor rods or at off-road height only) and with bits of plastic cut out of the guards.

No, I just use (swappable) shortened rods - lot cheaper and nothing to drill/break.
