Tyre wear

Could any one tell me if they have had back tyres wearing before the front ones? Previous experience on 4x4s, the tyre wear was even front to back. Ive done 20k on this set and its the original Pirelli's, but the fronts still have loads of tread and the backs have around 1k left. Sad
If anyone has any advice for me i would really appreciate it.

Thanks Very Happy

Hi

previous experience with LandRovers has been that the rears will always wear faster than the fronts. Current TDV8 is no different and with rears down on the tread wear indicators, the fronts still have a few mm left in them.

I think that whilst we have 4wd unless you have the centre diff locked, more power will go to the rear.

Not sure what you're talking about guys, front tyres will always wear more quickly, I'd siggest a 5-10k difference between front and back, I did 35k on my fronts and 40k on backs before I changed - still reasonable tread on all aswell.

You need to look in to this is your rears are wearing out first...

Jonathan, I'm pretty comfortable with the condition - over 20 years experience of ownering LRs but I'm always willing to learn - care to speculate why the fronts would wear more quickly?

2 main reasons, 1st the fact that you are steeping with the front and use power steering will mean that the tyres experience more friction than the rears, 2nd - something like 70% of the braking is done by the front wheels under normal use so again, the front tryes experience more friction and hence wear.

That's my view anyway - although I might be talking out of my Whistle Whistle Whistle

So guys, i have found out today why my back tyres have less tread than the front ones. When it had its 1st service, they were changed front to back! This is apparently part of the 1st service at 15k. Panic in now over Thumbs Up
