Australia 2010 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Fuji White
Twitchy Steering wheel above 55 MPH/90KPH

Control arm bushes and new and improved ball joints in the last 2 weeks, 2 new tyres in the last 6 weeks, now rotated and rebalanced on the front.. 4 wheel alignment, yet post the Bushes and Ball joint changes, when you get to a certain speed typically above 55m/88K, the Steering wheel starts to twitch in a left/right motion even on a straight and flat piece of road which is quite rare around Sydney... Steering rack change about 20 months ago Question Anything left to go wrong down there Neutral

Any idea's anyone before i take back to the dealer ... fCensoredg again Evil or Very Mad Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

That's the classic Steering Wheel Shimmy issue. Evil or Very Mad

Are you on 20's?

Is it always there at these speeds, the related TSB states this can be caused by flat spotting of the tyres. From being staionary overnight or even for a few hours.
The flat spotting should go after driving 10 miles at 55mph plus. I had mine looked at by LR Dealer, went for 20 mile roadtest with him. He stated the wheel shake was within tolerance for the car as it's a characteristic on 20's.

Was your balancing Road Force Variation? As this does improve the issue.

Also did you rotate the wheels before or after the 4 wheel alignment? As different tyre tread depths can affect the alignment.

I've just realised I've experienced a similar issue once before with my RRS when I drove it one morning but it went after 10 minutes like islider said.

It felt like I was driving with a flat tyre. Gone: RRS : HSE : TDv6 : 57 : Java Black : Ebony : 20"

Thanks all, I will have to take it for a blast this weekend up the motorway and see if it disappears or not.

On 18" rims not 20"s..

Interestingly enough if you grip the wheel you cannot feel the vibration that much, yet when you let go of it slightly it goes into twitch mode Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

Wwhen I had my 2008 RRS, I had a shimmy at 100kph.

Wheels balanced - no change
Steering rack replaced - 50% improvement
Rear diff and 5 tyres replaced - don't know because I changed the car but LR said it was fixed.

I would get the rear diff checked, mine was "not right" from the factory according to LRA.

I will book it in this week to get it checked. Interesting point on the rear diff, colleague at the office had the oil changed on the rear diff at 75K on his D3, the specialist company who changed it found metal filings in the oil Shocked Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

The last service I had done (110k kms) they changed the rear diff on mine (without me asking).. apparently they are doing all cars at this mileage now, it was on a LR Technical Service Bulletin... i would check with your dealer Wink

I always used to get vibration at 60kph on mine when I had 20" rims, then changed the tyres from the contis to Yokohamas and it went away Thumbs Up 2006 RRS Supercharged
Hawke Saker 22" rims Nitto Tires
Larini exhaust System
ECU remap
Modified and ported supercharger with 3lb pulley
