The RRS owners manual suggests that there are two ways to release the "E" brake, push down on the control or simply put the vehicle in gear and accelerate. I've tried the "just drive" method and it seems to me that it puts a strain on the brakes. Said another way, it just doesn't seem right!

Good point, I always release mine before pulling away. Just a habbit now...... Currently: Carbon Black 535d

It really doesn't hurt the brakes... it disengages the brake well before any real "strain." I never do it manually.

Likewise, I never release it manually. In fact, there is a downside to this. The fact that you get used to it and when you then go and drive your wife's car without an electric one, you drive off down the road with the handbrake still on

Leanrt a little something new on my LRE day today. The slight strain you feel is simply the shoes poping away from the drums of the park brake.

If you weren't aware already, the park brake is a set of drums within the rear discs. The only warning the LRE instructor gave was putting the brake on in very cold conditions - a risk does exist of the shoes freezing to the side wall of the drums - to quote his words 'bloody cold' Currently: Carbon Black 535d

If the car is built with a function, my advice is ...USE IT!

There was a threa d a while ago about over use of the air suspension and the folding wing mirrors and how they are likely to break if you continually used them. It's total rubbish.

These cars are designed for a purpose and things like the EAS, wing mirrors motors and electonic park brake have been around for years. There is no harm to the car in using them, otherwise why would LR build them in?

Can you imagine when electric windows first came about...did anyone back then say "Don't use them too much, otherwise one day you'll put the window down and it won't go back up again, you'll burn out the motor!"
