3.0 TDV6 - run in time

or should that be how long before the engine loosens up? Currently getting about 26mpg (done 480 miles) and I would have thought it would be better than this. I assume the mpg wont be around 30mpg until the engine has properly loosened. So is this about 1000 miles? Majority of mileage has been A road / motorway.

Doesnt bother me that much - just wondering.

3000-5000 miles, you should be better placed to see better fuel economy. While running her in you shouldn't really drive at constant speeds, vary them. I think the manual on my D3 said keep her below 70mph and less than 2000rpm until past 600miles.

After that start increasing the the revs bit by bit, by 1000 miles I'd be redlining the thing, to get the engine v hot and used to these stretches!

But tio be honest do what you want, I don't think it'll make that much differnce..... Thumbs Up 2010MY Land Rover Freelander 2 HSE

I didnt think you had to "run" these engines in anymore?? Have to say my dealer didnt even mention anything about running it in when i collected mine?? Im taking it steady when my family are in the car with me - but i give it some stick everytime im on my own in it regardless!! Even on the way back from the dealers when i picked it up i hit 120mph on the M1 and didnt think twice about it!! Im sure these engines are fine and unless you red line it everwhere from cold, i dont think you need to worry about it. Happy to be corrected though if someone knows for sure im wrong?? 2010MY RRS TDV6 HSE

combined mpg is usually achievable, or very near, on the motorway.

read the handbook and it stated something along the lines of "do not use sport mode until 500 miles and keep to under 3k". Though i had read that after i had used sports mode Smile

dont think it is realy an issue in modern engines though.

Think the most important thing for new engines is not staying at a constant rpm.
Picked up a previous car new, and left the dealer in Essex and drove straight to Cornwall on M4/5.
Salesman said don't stick to 70 for too long, drop down to 60 for periods, and take it up to 80+ as well, to avoid 'mapping the engine'.
Honest officer, that's what the salesman told me. Whistle
