My New Stride !

After what feels like ages looking for a suitable car I finally got my grubby little hands on my 1st RRS today!

Loving the drive so far, really feels great, my 1st 4x4 too so is very different.

Nearly went for the ipod/iphone kit but was pleased to find it picked up my contact details etc through bluetooth which saved me £500 from the stealer.

Amazed if not a bit scared about the power of the TDV8. Not even got it in sport mode yet, dont think I'll need to! Wish I was as amazed with the MPG, got about 19MPG tootling about this afternoon and just filled up from nearly a 1/4 of a tank and came out £75 lighter... can't really moan though as I knew all this before I bought.

Fitted some coded vent grilles (nice instructions on the sticky BTW) that I'd bought whilst waiting and am generally chuffed with everything.

The wife is taking it to work tomorrow so no play now until Sunday Big Cry

Liking the site !

Looks lovely! I fancied the TDv8 but opted for the TDv6 which is not as quick but sufficient for me and I get between 30-35mpg. Gone: RRS : HSE : TDv6 : 57 : Java Black : Ebony : 20"

Thanks,

wow, 30-35 is very impressive.

Persuaded the wife to take the other car to work in the end, result !

Just took it the local bypass and set the cruise control to 75 and averaged about 28mpg so panic over ... loving the adaptive cruise control, motorways will never seem the same again !!

yea 28 is normal for the average motorway run. Ive seen as high as 30-32. I also almost died of boredom in the same journey Laughing .

Around town 22-23 is normal and 18/19 if your addicted to the V8 Laughing .

If you actually do alot of mixed motorway/a road aswell as your town driving it usually sits around 24 i find.

OUCH!! Shocked

Sorry to hear that - I did a similar thing (although granted with not quite so much damage) the first time I took mine into a multistorey after taking delivery. I completely ignored the beeps as usual and ended up going thud.

Jinks to Schmoogle (Remember that)

I hit a concrete bollard, barely a mark on the bumper. Did hit square on the centre of the bumper though.

That's bad luck SM. Hope it's not as expensive as it looks.

Any chance you can take it back under the 30 day exchange thing Whistle

I do reverse reasonably slowly now, not so much that rearward vision is bad out of the RRS. It's just that you can't see what's below you.

I was going pretty quick so the parking sensors didn't really have chance to beep. I have worked out it was a slight blind spot behind the rear "pillar" and that would explain why I didn't see it. Yes, defo slowing down now.

To be honest I've always got 1 eye on the MPG so generally have slowed my driving right down since having the beast. I'm used to driving pretty fast petrol cars and generally tear arse everywhere but not anymore ! Quite enjoying just rolling round in the RRS trying to keep the revs under 2500. According to the computer though I'm still only getting about 23mpg.

Repairs are estimated at £2500 but luckily got my no claims protected so should only cost me £200 excess, well that and my pride, lots of pish taking as you'd imagine !

I think the difference in MPG between driving like a saint and a more sporty application of the go pedal is around 10%. I spend about £80 a week on fuel and think the extra £8 a week is bloody good value for the extra entertainment provided from using the TDv8 "properly". Even after 50,000 I still can't help smiling everytime that smooth surge of power starts to reel in the horizon.

I average 25mpg consistently on very mixed rural, dual carriagway and town driving. And I certainly don't hang around Whistle RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

Don't blame you Smarticus,

I had a TDV8 for a few weeks, and compared to my TDV6 it felt like you had to keep reining in the power.

Couldn't help but gun it around everywhere, well worth the extra 10% on fuel.

Made me wish I had gone for the S/C i'd first tested, but was all sensible at the time. Whistle

But still happy with the TDV6 Wink
