I did not know!

Had dinner with a friend who owns a auto body repair facility who told me a new RRS was in his shop as a result of an accident. He went on to say that the body (skin) was aluminum. Am I the only person who wasn't aware of this Question

All Land Rover vehicles have alluminium body panels. Only the main frame and engine bulkhead will be steel for obvious safety reasons.

This all dates back to the first Series One Land Rovers built just after WW2, when there was a world wide steel shortage.

TB - in that case, do you know if LR have managed to find an effective way of isolating the aluminium from the steel to avoid the electrolytic reaction that has affected the bodywork of previous models?

All vehicles go through an electro coating process during paint.

Don't know if this answers your question.

Thanks TB.

I'm not sure it does - I'm thinking about how the aluminium panels and steel frame components are physically separated so that they don't react causing problems with paintwork etc.

Also, are all the body panels of the RRS aluminium?

The bonnet and boot lids seem to be aluminium on the RRS. Not sure about the main panels - seem like steel to me. Matt

RRS ownership for 1 yr, then D3 for 2 yrs. Then cut back to old bangers and working my way back up through two Peugeots in 6 months. Now got Saab 9-5 2.3t and enjoying the performance!

I'm sure if you keep the car for 15 years it will have some signs of corrosion.....somewhere, maybe.

When was the last time you saw a modern car rusting away like the old Morris Ital and Lancia anything? L319 D4 HSE
