Spotted this in this weeks Autocar 14th feb 06

The author makes comment at the end " A PETROL SPORT IS THE WAY TO GO "

I think he misses the point Confused and also says there are better diesel 4x4's including the new Audi Q7 ( hardly a true 4x4 ) and by what test is he comparing it on?

What say you all................

What planet has he been on. 8 months after launch and he says a petrol versions on the way - HELLO! MDP and RRUK what are you driving? The Q7 has he driven one off road yet, has he driven one at all? I doubt it - bring back the blonde bit from Tatler magazine! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

I think to an extent he is right (I'll get my coat now) look at the difference between the D3 and RRS forums. The D3 owners are much more LR aficionados that are into off road ability and utility. On this side few have owned a LR product before and have been tempted by the sporty 4x4 bit, with the off road ability a distinct second place. LR should have made a more powerful diesel from the outset. The Merc and Audi engines are much better from a performance point of view, but LR have never used powerful engines the current RR is a case in point, VW put a beast of a V10 in RR has a weedy detuned X5 engine!

RRS has done an excellent job in attracting new owners to the marque rather than pinching existing owners, but in the more image conscious world that RRS sits LR need to up the power and quickly.

I agree, my time on D3 was a lot about content and less about the shine. I am clearly in the 'new to the brand' category.

If they had given this car the right amount of power from the outset the waiting list would still be 18 months long. Currently: Carbon Black 535d

Yep, I think that sums up the difference quite well. In my eyes, the D3 site is much more green wellies and Barbour jackets, whereas this site does seem to be a little more blingified Wink Either way I'm not entirely sure what the point of that snippet in Autocar is all about. I too thought "where have you been, then?"... journos, eh? Pah!

Another way to look at the site differences:

D3's members are about the LR brand and a real interest in the off road life, such loyalty to the brand is displayed over there.

RRS's members seem to be about being general Petrol Heads (in the main) Many of us on here are serial part exer's who have dipped into the LR brand just through the sheer impact of it's new cars - the feeling I pick up is that we are all ver impressed by the cars, the only thing that got me out of my D3 was the RRS - I can't see me wanting to get out of the brand for some time and am also getting more and more keen in the off road side of things.

It will be interesting to see how many RRS owners remain loyal through the release of the RS4, M3, RS4 TDI ( Shocked ) etc over the coming months / years. This isn't a criticism, this is an observation about loving all things new and petroleum driven!!! Currently: Carbon Black 535d

I think I agree.

I have always wanted a RR and when the RRS came along I fell in love with the looks of the car so I ordered one. I like many ordered the car before I drove one, in fact the first time I drove it was after I bought it. However, owning my RRS since June I now want to try offroading in it and discover its capabilities, something I never wanted to do in my Audi TT or other previous cars. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.

I did though manage one unplanned off road expedition in an S3 in my younger years Laughing

After this excursion into the wilderness I learned that corners are best driven around rather than through - this was the first and last time I had seen the other side of a hedge until I bought the D3! Currently: Carbon Black 535d

Laughing I did this too after 3 weeks of having a full license. 17 years old and knew it all of course - completely wrecked my mum's nice little Ford Escort at the time! Fortunately haven't been in any moving accidents since then... people have driven into me a couple of times, but nothing serious.
