Martin,
You are making a great decision having this done. I'm a consultant Anaesthetist here in the US, (called an Anesthesiologist over here though), and if I ever need glasses, etc. there is only one thing I'd have done and that is Lasik. Yes, there are still minor risks involved, but they are in fact minor for the most part. Just ensure that you go to an experienced surgeon using state-of-the-art equipment, and you'll do great.

Cheers Bish,

I am at ease with the fact that they are using state of the art technology being - " Wavefront Guided Lasik " The practice is in Solihul and they have 1 other practice in London. Their optomerist & surgeon are the appointed specialists in eye care for the England Rugby Football Team.

Still nervous though - what a baby Big Cry Wink

Solihull hey.. send me their details, may need this doing myself in a few years, my eyes are ok at the moment, but with this continual computer staring, im sure they won't be soon enough, nice to know they are on my doorstep though! MDP would have said, meet up for a drink or summat if you're around my area, but don't think you will be quite up for popping out after having lazars shot at your eyes for a little while!

Kam - their place is exactly over the road from Beatties - They are situated in what looks like 3 storey New town houses , but all offices etc. Large courtyard leads through to their own big car park ( secure )

Laser Surgery

I had my eyes done back in 1995-96 when it really was quite new technology. Having worn various contact lenses and specs for years and hated it, this was an ideal solution for me. At first they wouldn't touch me as my prescription was too high at -6.5 dioptres and astigmatism in both eyes, but after 18 months they wrote back and said they'd do it. Left eye was done first in Aug 95 and the right eye in Feb 96. Results were astounding, - 20-20 vision from -6.5 dioptres is like a miracle. I was 'blind' and now I see. This was before the Lasik treatment was available so my corneas were zapped and it took 36 hours of pain to heal. These days they slice the top of the cornea off, zap underneath and put the slice back on which speeds up the healing process immensly. Plus you have both eyes done at the same time.
10 years later and my eyesight is good - not perfect but good. I'm 49 now, so I'm getting to the stage where I need reading glasses for close work, but distance and night vision are great. I wouldn'y hesitate to go again. Only slight UGH moment was seeing smoke coming off my eyeball and smelling burning flesh on first visit. On 2nd visit they installed a fan to disperse smoke and smell.
Hope I haven't put anyone off !!! Rolling Eyes Shocked Smile AF Range Rover Evoque 5 door on order.
