Ball Joint Question

I know some of you have had Ball Joints replaced under warranty , i have been told by a stealer that mine need replacing and that it cant be done under warranty as it is a wear and tear item ? Now ive talked about this before on here and the feedback is that it should be covered. I have sent emails to CH service to see what the life of said ball joints should be and alas have had no answer !

I would like someone from LR to confirm that ball joints are indeed a wear and tear item ? and what the life expectancy should be for them and wether it is a warranty item or not. Im quite sure they wont answer that but hey we will see Rolling Eyes . . . . Anyone else had this problem and was it sorted out under warranty ?

Any feedback much appreciated

Seems various dealers have agreed to replace the ball joints under warranty and I suppose if one can get LR to approve a warranty repair then so should all dealers. James at CHPR did mention recently that Paul their service manager had overlooked some other emails too - maybe worth just ringing in that case? Very Happy

I am having the same debate at the moment, i bought a second hand RRS for my wife to accompany mine Smile it went in for a service yesterday and they say the ball joints are worn and need replacing... My response to them was well I only bought it second hand from you 4 months ago and you didnt mention that the ball joints were wearing in the "fully comprehensive pre delivery service" you did. I am supposed to have 12 mnths extended warranty.

My argument is that if they are worn now, they were worn when they sold it to me .... so fix it !!

Do you guys think i have a case, the car has done 8K since i bought it from them....

I don't know for sure, but you may find they're not covered under the extended warranty. The extended warranty is less than simply an extension of the factory warranty in that respect.

It would seem reasonable to me that in 8k you couldn't have worn them so much that when they did their PDI they wouldn't have at least seen the wear, if they were indeed checked. The other side of that fence is that I'm not sure what they are obliged to fix as part of a second hand PDI. Obviously, all components that are liable to wear aren't going to get replaced as part of the PDI by default but it's going to be a interesting case to challenge.

You've already taken the first step. In parallel, I'd also be talking to LRCS about it from a "process" point of view, so you can be armed with the facts.

LRCS said its not covered... called the dealer... played the line that obviously their sales staff lied when they sold the car and demanded all paperwork pertaining to the PDC and the pre-deliver MOT on the car..... 5 minutes later the service desk calls and they will now cover on warranty... which is great Very Happy Very Happy Thumbs Up put what else is on that PDC and MOT !!!!! Thanks for the replies , it still leaves this debate wide open i cant see how one Dealer can claim ball joint replacement as a warranty item and others do not. I still dont believe that the ball joints on RR Sports are only supposed to last 3 years and then need changing as a matter of wear and tear ! Shocked

Never had a car needing replacement ball joints ever especially at this age

I forgot to mention when i was at the dealers the service guy tried to sell me extended warranty , he said that if i take the warranty i can then claim on it for the ball joints ???? Surely its under warranty or not !

Agreed. I wonder if this shows that the LR warranty doesn't have a specific set of parts attached to it and rather each claim is reviewed on its own merits - can't imagine that's a very efficient way to run things.

The mind boggles Rolling Eyes

Be nice to see a show of hands from here who have had them changed for what ever reason under warranty and by what dealer.

It would also be nice to see an official answer to wether the Ball joints are indeed a wear and tear item for this age of vehicle.

Monkey - I believe LR have redesigned the ball joints for the RRS precisely because the original fitting was wearing out too quickly and potentially contributing to the infamous knocking on the front end. That strikes me as a fair case for saying that the original part was defective and replacements should be fitted FOC at LR expense. Worth a try anyway .... RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

Given the date on that TSB is Oct 08, I'd suggest yours would not have them.
