ummmmmmmmmmmmm DSL, on present indications this looks like it's going to be a D3 event, come on RRS Ecosse we need some more interest. So far the RRS's attending are ........................................

ME and possibly Paulo there are at least 4 D3's, a Defender and 1 Freely2 (possibly 2). To be confirmed you have to send me a PM as it appears only I can "confirm" you. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Al, just shows what a great long haul transport the RRS is - in fact I would suggest the only car better would be a FFRR for the trips you do. Mine is about to click over the 19000th mile, which has been done in 22 months of ownership and 11 months of being at home to drive it, and unusually for me not a single mile of that has been offroad. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

After the Odiham meeting we left to go catch the ferry at 22:00, we arrived home at 04:30 with Marie doing the final stint of the drive. As you say, it is effortless and just eats the miles. Must have a look at the FFRR for the next car but I'm enjoying the "Sport" just too much, once I get the MG back from its "fettling" Twisted Evil I'll have my sports car again and put less mileage on the RRS.
I would have loved to have come on the jaunt through the Scottish countryside, I miss the hills here in Belgium! Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

Just put this on D3...

Time for a serious post from me! Shocked

Quote:
OK here is my plan:

There are a few members from way up north interested and I suggest that you all get together and arrange a location that suits you to meet up as I don't know the NE very well. NOTE added - I have been trying to get Pauloamore in Aberdeen to arrange soemwhere for the guys in the NE to meet and come south in company.

For those from the Central Belt area I suggest a start from Stirling Services about 09:30/10:00 and attempt to follow the route of General Wades Military Roads from Stirling via Sheriffmuir to Comrie then to Amulree to follow the unclassified road to Kenmore at the east end of Loch Tay where there is a big picnic area and where I propsed the Northern group meets us at lunchtime. From here there are a few options - depending on weather/ how much driving folks want to do - either over the backroads to Glen Lyon and complete a circuit of Ben Lawyers, coming back either via Glen Ogle/ Callander/ The Trossachs/Aberfoyle or via Crianlarrich and the west side of Loch Lomond (maybe not a good route at this time of the year between Crianlarrich and Tarbert!)

Unfortunately Dunkeld LRE won't allow us onto their offroad centre but I will investigate using their carpark as a lunch time stop. There is the possiblity of then going north to Laggan and to find the Spey Ford (not for those with body kits on their cars but it is possible to get to the other side via Laggan village and about 3 miles of driving for those folks)

Please can you PM me back if you intend to come. There is no charge, there will be no "offroading" and all you need is the car/picnic and enough fuel for the day.

If anybody has any scenic alternatives suggestions would be gratefully received. I would also like to know if you would prefer to do the drive to Dalwhinnie/Laggan and to drive the Spey Ford rather than do the scenic tour. No matter which is prefered there are a lot of miles to be covered in the day!

Tim

That's the PM we should have all received from Tim, correct? Picking out from that, proposed meet at Loch Tay at lunchtime for the Northern group to meet. Looking through Google maps, away from home ATM so can't look at road maps, I propose that the Aberdeen lot drive up the A96 where I can join at Inverurie, follow the road up and turn off at either Huntly or Keith, with more people joining on the way (may not be necessary, not sure where everyone is from!). From there head into Grant town where we can meet DSL (and others?) and head off to Aviemore. We can join the people from Inverness here and head to Loch Tay in time for lunch! From Aberdeen this route is about 175 miles and will take about 4hours 15 minutes! Shocked Shocked I don't believe that!

Route plan is here.

Another problem is I can only manage 280 miles on a tank of Diesel. I'll be taking a 20l jerry can with Diesel in it then!

What do we think?

I'm keeping it clean ATM! Just until I get the chassis wax-oiled again. Then I've got some checker plate (black) to fit and a snorkel. Then I'll have a brown 300TDi! Thumbs Up Maverick off disco3!

4WDr - at the moment there is yourself and Maverick from Aberdeen - would you like to get together and decide where to meet up in time to arrive at the Kenmore Picnic area at the east end of Loch Tay (about 0.5miles west of the village on the A827. I haven't heard recently from PauloAmore what his intentions are.

The plan for the guys from the south is to meet at the Stirling Services on the M9/ J9 in time to leave there at 10am which should be enough time to arrive at Kenmore about 1pm. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
