Buying a Car Online - CHPR (now Lookers Park Royal)

Thanks to James and Steve I am a new RRS owner as of yesterday

Having lurked on the site for a while I phoned them after a test drive locally
To be honest my initial contact was to test the water and see what they could come up with price wise as the general feeling here is that they are quite competitive

I was offered an 8.5MY TDV8 at less than all of the brokers - which was nice Smile
No bullshit and no sales patter, just a straight 'best price'
All rather refreshing really!

To be fair the local dealer matched them after a very theatrical sucking of air through teeth, however he couldnt supply the exact spec car I wanted so a deal was done 160 miles away mediated through one or two phone calls and a few emails

I picked the car up yesterday and immediately headed into Central London for lunch before returning most of the way up the M1 in time to collect the kids from school

The school thing is a cliche I admit and to be fair it will rarely be seen at the school gates again I promise.
Today its earned its keep with a commute across the moors and is already filthy

The car is just a superb way to travel on the motorway but the nicest surprise was how manageable it feels in the city
After 6 years in a 3 series I was expecting a little while to acclimatize to how bloody big it is but as soon as I pulled onto the westway I lost any inhibitions about driving straight into town

First impressions are obviously good then

Niggles are minor and as follows:

The seats have so much sodding adjustment I didnt get comfy till junction 27 on the M1 - thank goodness for the memory function
The steering wheel isnt as nice to hold as an M sport one, or maybe its just new and shiny?
And the noise the TDV8 makes is driving me mad being limited to modest revs for 500 miles as per the handbook

Anyway many thanks
Im happy with the deal and delighted with the car
Id never thought of buying a car over the net but there you go

YSO
(Back to lurking mode again)

EDIT: I need new plates for my trailer - how long approx will the V5 take to arrive?

Tim

Nice idea - Ive always had a thing for barges
However if the Maybach was indeed mine there would be no need to buy a RRS as the horse could have gone in the back - not a horsebox Smile

Im sure they do Tim but the bottom line is its just a car and besides the rest of the family will trash it no matter what I do

That track is a BOAT and is a lot more of a challenge on a Stumpjumper
Ive ridden it many many times and couldnt resist seeing how the Sport handled it, which was very well

I'll stick to the bike for the rest of my off road fun, its better for you and you dont get the woolly hat brigade shouting at you quite so much Smile

MOR, you are very lucky down there to be able to just drive off the tar and onto lanes like that, up here they lock you up for doing things like that - doesn't matter if you are on a mountainbike or in a 4x4, if you don't have the permission of the land owner you cannot go there! There are only 2 public rights of way in Scotland, away from the tar and both are also historic monuments so not only do they lock you up, you have to pay to make good any damage you have done! At least Forest Enterprise look favourably on 4x4 owners and after going for an interveiw and filling in reams of paperwork and doing a 100 risk assessments the local forest management might let you into the woods! It's all pay and play up here for 4x4's 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
