Issues with L/R dealers on warranty

Hi all

I know theres a lot in here about chips and stuff but what i need to know is if i have a chip fitted to a TDV6 are there any issues with L/R dealers on warranty?



P.S can anyone also tell me if i can fit a S/C back box and tail pipe to TDV6 with out any warranty issues? RRS TDV6 Gone but still around

Any modification you make is okay as long as it doesn't lead to a warranty defect. If your car is chipped and the compressor goes, you would be covered. If your turbo blew and LR say the chip caused it then it would not. This extends to any extra, so for instance you put 22" rims on and it knackers the suspension you would not be covered.

There's no sensible reason why swapping the back box or even better, just the tips of the exhausts should invalidate the warranty, other than the exhaust itself.

Several members have already done just that. Do a search for exhausts or tips and you shall be rewarded! L319 D4 HSE

If you get underneath the car you will see that the exhaust is not sectional. The rear box is integral ( which includes tail pipe ) and the the pipework runs complete to the CAT.see below pic of TDv6 exhaust



What I have seen is that some members have got Exhaust companies to cut the tailpipe off and join/weld a new chrome pipe in its place.

I can also confirm that JE Engineering are looking at a replacement exhaust for the TDv6 model that resembles the S/C'd - but the chrome tip has a discreet exit directing the emitted gases towards the ground so that your car remains clean from carbon deposits.

I am having a new JE exhaust for my supercharged ( large OVALS ) - will post pics as soon as done. Very Happy

As from pic above I now see the firm in Nuneaton ( my home town ) are also selling a S/C exhaust system which they say you can fit on a TDV6

Who knows, depends how much is at stake I guess and how good your knowledge is at proving the failure was not down to the modification. Could a non standard exhaust system put heat in the wrong place and affect the wiring, I don't know but that could be an avenue Ford take!

When you look at those two pics, you can see there is no difference in exhausts between the TDV6 and the V8 SC, other than the SC comes in Stainless Steel.

Surely a force fed 4.2V8 petrol should have a different system to a Turbo charged diesel that's only 2.7ltrs?

Are the main pipes of different diameters does anyone know? L319 D4 HSE

Just been talking to a friend that worked on the L/R production line. He told me that the only difference he could see was the tips and he thinks there are the same size on the S/C and TDV6 so it should just fit on with a spot of welding

Thats all fair and well but by doing this anyone know if it will affect the working of the engine? at the end of the day it may look good but i don't want to lose my warranty by doing this. (confused don't know what to do) RRS TDV6 Gone but still around

why not try giving http://www.jeengineering.co.uk/ a call. Ask him what he thinks.knows about the standard fit exhausts etc .... just a thought, also they have done mods on exhausts for the RRS both TD and S/C & may poss have the standard s/c ones to p/x if you dont want to go for something different?

I dont think it will effect your warranty at all.

Hi, Can anyone tell me why the Tdv6 has got stumpy downwards facing non aluminium pipes? and what effects the carbon might have on a straight S/S exhaust system?

You'll find most modern diesels have pipes that point down towards the ground - the idea is that the carbon deposits in diesel exhaust don't get thrown out into the air. It'd also make a bit of a mess of the back of your car too...

This is my first venture into the world of diesel. So not a good idea to have straight pipes with a silver RRS then unless I want to wash it every couple of days. Rolling Eyes
