Dealer sales staff salary

Anyone know what the new car sales guys get paid?

I know it's a low basic and then on commission but anyone got a realistic figure of what they get? L319 D4 HSE

The one I know is on £18000 basic + car + bonus based on selling 6 cars per month.

If he meets targets then he can expect to earn £40000 per year Chips with everything

Only 6 cars a month??????

My salesman is doing that about every day!

That's more than I thought they'd be on, I had the impression it was around £12K base. L319 D4 HSE

I think I should change my job. I could sell more than six Sports per month! Matt

RRS ownership for 1 yr, then D3 for 2 yrs. Then cut back to old bangers and working my way back up through two Peugeots in 6 months. Now got Saab 9-5 2.3t and enjoying the performance!

So I could earn a nice wage if I hit target, and if I exceeded it I would earn more, and save money cos I would always be in some form of landrover as a car, probably a D3 SE.

Easy. L319 D4 HSE

This is exactly it! The guy I used to deal with at my local BMW dealers always used to say that selling BMWs was the easiest thing in the world. You didn't actually have to do any selling... a customer would come, say they wanted this particular car and all he'd have to help them with is provide a bit of subject matter expertise when speccing it up. Like you say, you can fight amongst yourselves as to which demo you get to drive home and bob's your uncle. I'd quite like to do it actually - but I couldn't afford to work for a marque where you really had to SELL - i.e. Ford/Vauxhall etc.

I would love to do this as well.. Only sales job where there is little actual chasing required. customers walk in off the street and want a car.. u just have to point them in the right direction.

I have found it so annoying in the past, usual, going into a car showroom with my sister or dad, and looking at a car, then we ask the salesman/lady for assistance, and it turns out i know more then them about the car, after a little light reading before turning up to the showroom! come on its not that hard. Specially cuz the lady in question was selling Alfa Romeos, they only have about 4 models in the entire range!

If it was my full time job i would make sure i knew at least a little bit on each car, just so i wouldn't look like a complete nob when a customer walked in and asked me something technical.

Have done so much groundwork for my sister and parents before with their cars, that i have almost thought i deserve all the sales commission over the salesman, who just kinda stood there.

and the easiest lesson to learn...never judge a book by it's cover, always assume someone can afford the car, rather than if they are wearing jeans and a T shirt they must be chavs or poor etc. L319 D4 HSE

People buy people not products, it doesn't matter how good the product if they don't like you they aren't going to buy.

absolutely!

I once chaged my mind about buying an Audi Quattro Turbo in the late 80s because I got ignored by the sales team who, eventually after me following them around told me it was 'fast enough'
I went back 20 minutes later but swapped my pushbike for my Ferrari 328 GTS
The entire VAG staff were gathered admiring my car as I was taking a second look at the Quattro. I shook my head, ripped up the Audi brochure and sped off.
However not that cool as I still had my jeans tucked into my socks for biking and to be honest I loved the Quattro and never bought one!
So VAG lost a £26K + sale because they thought I couldn't afford one.

Should really grow up a bit, but who cares, I'd still do the same now!

Mr Bean,
I had exactly the same experience way back in '86. I went to a dealership in Gloucester to look at the Quattro and was pretty much ignored. Unfortunately, I didn't have a Ferrari to go back in, but once I'd got my new Quattro that I'd bought from the dealer in Cirencester, I went back to the original dealer to show them what they'd missed out on Wink
Childish, but I enjoyed the moment Smile

Paul

I had an issue with a VW Dealership.

I went to buy a VW Golf and I was wearing old jeans and a sweat shirt.
The salesman kept looking me up and down but said nothing so I said to him "You either think I have no money or you're gay and you fancy me?!"

His face was a picture and his Sales director still ribs him every week but he got the message Wink Chips with everything
