As the title suggests can anyone help me please

I bought a 42" philips ambilight telly (model no 42PFL9632D/10) at the end of november 07 (not quite 15 months ago) at a cost of £1630.00 and the bloody thing stopped working on saturday night .

The screen has gone blank but i still get sound and the ambilights are working so it looks like it is a screen problem.

To add insult to injury i have spoken to philips today and as a gesture of goodwill they MIGHT stand part of the repair but i have to pay at least the first £350.00 as it is out of warranty. They told me i had to get a service report first and put me in touch with a philips approved center nearby. They told me it would be £145.75 just to come and tell me what was wrong and then philips would decide if they would pay towards it.

I am seriously pi:censored:ed off after spending all that money for a decent telly to have it knackered after just over 14 months

Does anybody have any suggestions as the best thing to do or know anybody that can help

not sure on the repair side of it myself

But if bought via a credit card, do they offer any additional warranty, or even your bank account if paid via debit card, as lots of "+plus" accounts have added benefits

if not, could it fall off its stand

It was bought on a debit card and we have an RBS royalties gold account so it has allsorts of benefits

Could be a few things, however sounds like the power supply or regulator for the display has failed

I have quite a few screens repaired and normal cost for us varies from £80-£200 (inc. new power supply boards etc)

Ring Trading Standards or Consumers Association and ask about your rights under Sale og Goods Legislation

You will find the a TV should be expected to last a lot longer than this one has and should be repaired FOC by the seller.

Sorry, but a one years warranty is exactly that - manufacturers are not liable for repair at their cost after this period has expired

Anthony, we have a Philips LCD TV and this is a problem that afflicts ours regularly.

The solution (Although massively frustrating) is to keep turning it off and on again. Usually, after a couple/few attempts the picture comes on and then its fine for a while.

Problem for me is it started doing it at 18months-2yrs so well out of warranty.

My Sony (pile of ) failed shortly out of warranty (like all the Sony I have bought has) i had a local repair shop look at it for a £17.50 evaluation where they work out a quote for repair - that may be the way to go??

Have you searched in google for a Phillips LCD TV forum.............................................................. just be careful what you use as the search heading as using TV could find you some very strange webistes (unless that's what floats your boat of course)  2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

So are Panasonic, my 42" Freesat Plasma came with 5 years warranty, but hope i never need it
