You'll have to keep those bikes used Rupert, if you don't you will find what I did with a Trek bike I had - the disc brakes became seized up every time I went to sea....................... cycling against binding disc brakes is really hard work! At £40 a time to get them freed up I kept the bike for 18 months and partex'd for a Marin MoutVision SFR with a titanium frame, Carbonfibre front shocks and V brakes! It is very light and a magic bike to ride over the Nevis Ranges Downhill race track at the back of Ben Nevis - it's also dead light for slinging on the bikerack of the cable-car to the summit so i can cycle (well freewheel) back down ! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Know that feeling too! After 2 years of my current bike not moving a wheel I took it to Tiree with me on holiday last September. I thought it would cause me serious problems but Tiree has no serious hills to climb and cycling with 45-50mph of wind behind you is great until you change direction and it becomes a crosswind or worse a head wind - after 2 days of gentle cycling to get back into things for the rest of the 2 week holiday I managed to do an 18 miles circuit of the island each day before breakfast. The bike has sat in the garage since I came home from the holiday Big Cry 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I have the bike rack fitted to the detachable tow bar. Any bike on the last holder does not get anywhere near the rear hatch, it is very secure.. If you are a very rare RRS owner who actually tows anything, this system does not get in the way of hitching

Its made by Pacific Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

Does this forum have an opening for lead person to represent tree hugging cyclist hippies?

If so I nominate myself Smile

Ive been using a bevvy of Thule 591s on a 3 series estate/touring
They are superb
Despite being tall enough to use them on my new RRS, and according to Thule they will fit if using the correct bars, I have defected to a Thule 909 tow bar system for my new wheels

The 591's with bikes generated a whole heap of wind noise on my 330 and also knocked the mpg considerably thus I figured on a RRS many more seal cubs would suffer Smile

If you need to tow and have the gear fitted, which I do, then the 909 is a reasonable indulgence over several 591's plus the bars
(Please note a detachable tow bar and electrics can be found quite reasonably if you look around on the net)

The 909 and detachable tow bar fit in seconds and are rock steady

On my 330 I had the bars and cycle carriers fitted all the time
I see no need to do this for my RRS as I can lash up the detachable tow bar and 909 within 1-2 minutes then drive somewhere for a bike ride

You can certainly get the LR G4 mountainbikes very cheaply now - these were over a £1000 if you bought them from a Land Rover Dealer a couple of years ago
http://www.discountbicycles.co.uk/biz/prod...01c37498ba

I wonder if the G4 owners Club would let you in as a member if you bought one Mr. Green 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Those G4 bikes look like a totally cynical marketing exercise

The G4 guys may let you join their club but no serious cyclist will give you the time of day Smile

MOR - I doubt many serious mountain bikers would give the owner of an RRS the time of day too...................... more likely to mutter "Posing git" under their breath! Mr. Green
My bike is ancient - a MY2000 Marin Mount Vision FSR with carbon front shocks and Vee brakes - has done very nicely on hills and trails of Scotland over the last 9 years. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Switzerland 2009 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

OK, so I like the Thule G5 909, but also the Thule Pro 903. The 909 looks better, but the 903 has 9kg more capacity. I will be driving around with 3/4 bikes, and I can expand both carriers to hold 4, but the weight limit worries me a bit.

Any comments?

If you are carrying around 3 or more bikes have you thought about a small trailer rather than having all that weight hanging off the back - the load on the towball is a lot less with a trailer and they aren't so much more expensive than a good bike rack. I have one of these converted to carry my windsurfing kit, but bike stands are easy to fit too. http://www.iwt.co.uk/products/motocinch.htm
Here is a pic of mine in use behind my FFRR and with ladder racks being used to carry the windsurf gear but I have some stands for up to 4 bikes as well.

This is my Thule 909 with a selection of bikes
As you can see I have an off road bike, a town bike and a tiny Tata Nano type bike depending on my mood Smile

Seriously all the Thule bike stuff I have owned has been great
This one, much like the 591 roof carriers, will adapy easily to carry more or less any bike
And I should know as I have as many bikes as some of you have cars Laughing

Sorry for the camera phone, the Nikon is packed away at the back of the boot in the above pics
