when you open the glovebox you should see two plastic prongs on the dash side. One is the clip for the glovebox latch and the other is a longer round pin-like prong. You should be able to push that prong in as this is the switch for the lamp. If that prong is there then you have the light but the bulb has blown.

The bulb is located behind where those two prongs are located, tucked right up underneath out of view. I can try and take photos if you'd like? 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey with Alpaca premium leather, Adaptive cruise, Adaptive Bi-xenons, sunroof, Premium Nav, Premium ICE Logic 7, telephone, active locking rear diff, console coolbox, seat memory, powerfold mirrors, tow pack, window tint, dual battery, engel fridge, Goodyear Mud-Terrain tyres.

stick your finger into the gap directly behind the prong that triggers the light as it lives up there. 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey with Alpaca premium leather, Adaptive cruise, Adaptive Bi-xenons, sunroof, Premium Nav, Premium ICE Logic 7, telephone, active locking rear diff, console coolbox, seat memory, powerfold mirrors, tow pack, window tint, dual battery, engel fridge, Goodyear Mud-Terrain tyres.

Malaysia 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Chawton White

It could be..

1. bulb failure,
2. fuse blown,
3. circuit fault, or
4. switch fault.

Thanks Bobby, do you know if the glovebox light circuit is connected to the ashtray light / cigarette lighter? I noticed they are not working either and the fuse is fine...Cheers RR Sport TDV6 HSE 07MY Java Black

I'm not sure about the circuit but I think the glove compartment light, map reading lamps and vanity mirror lamps share the same fuse (10A).

I'll see if I can find any circuit diagrams! Malaysia Boleh!

The topic is a bit old, but maybe someone are interested in a top up with some pictures.
If the lamp is broken, why not replace it with a 5-LED wedge lamp, like this one:

This LED will draw 0.75W instead of the original 5W, and does not get hot.

As mentioned in the discussion, the glovebox lamp is very well hidden:

Instead of trying to get the bulb out from the nearly invisible socket, the whole socket can be taken out.
Use a small screwdriver or plier to loosen it from the panel. Your child's small fingers might be helpful to get hold of the loose socket from behind the panel:

Cable & plug is still attached to the socket. To get it off, use a plier to press in the plug's locking tab while pulling the cable:

The LED replacement does not reach the bottom of the socket, unless you cut off the small tabs supporting the original bulb:

Now it's all the way in:

Plug the cable back in the socket. Check that the rest of the interior lamps are on. If no light from the LED, take it out of the socket, turn it 180 degrees and put it back.
Now, try to get the assembly back in place (your child's small fingers again).

After this, replacing the rest of the interior lamps is a piece of cake Wink

Laughing I noticed that. Sad
Still look on the bright side, at least it works when the glovebox opens. Not sure a JLR branded one would have such reliability Whistle Laughing ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i
