This section pops up easily enough, just start pulling gently on either end with the tail gate open and you will eventually start snapping loose (not breaking) the remaining tabs.

The original letters are usually not reusable without a lot of cleanup work, since they have a soft sticky backing that tears when you pull them off, so most people will buy a new set of letters from the dealer or on line, it comes with the proper spacing as well.

Painting is a piece of cake.

As you'll notice, now the MY09's come with this painted...obviously they've taken notice that many people modded this piece on earlier MY's.
