Think you'll have to have a set of 19" wheels with winter tyres that can take the chains. TDV6 - gone

when i went to france I bought a set (not on a RRS), but they had a return policy that if you didn't use them you could return them, less a percentage of the cost (like a hire charge) or get a percentage off if you keep them and
swap cars/wheel sizes with in a year. (Look up Europa Ski Lodge on google)

Obviously if you have to use them there was no return or swap available, but there is always the for sale section on here Laughing

www.roofbox.co.uk have a set of Farrad clamp on spikes for a RRS on 19" in a sale for £178 Thumbs Up

I actually found that Petwag has a snow chain set for 275/40 R20:

I'm not sure there is enough clearance for snow chains on 275/40/R20's. So although this company makes them I doubt that they will take responsibility for any damage they cause to your RRS.

LR says in the handbook that you can't fit snow chains to 20" wheels.

So be careful. TDV6 - gone
TDV8 - gone

Then I obviously have a problem; I will be going to places in Austria where chains are required, but I can't find a set of 19" rims available for normal money here in Switzerland.

Am I allowed to have 19" rims and tires on the front, and 20" rims and same brand/model tires on the back? Or is that complete nonsense?

Well I suppose a set of winter tyres and any old set of chains in the boot to keep the Police happy and hope you never actually need them will suffice Whistle Wink TDV6 - gone

Killerbob, I would imagine not a good idea. If the car wasn't designed to do so then I imagine it would upset the balance of the car and POSSIBLY be a safety risk.

Personally, I wouldn't risk it Thumbs Up

Dangerous for the handling and also for your gearbox/differentials as if the rolling radius is different (which they will be as it is near impossible to get the same on different size tyres) the differentials will have to work overtime and increase wear.

Originally it was Killer Bo, as in my name is Bo, and I used in for paintball and online gamings. That turned into KillerBob one day, and yes, this was after doing another long weekend catching up on old Twin Peaks recordings.

Good catch,

That wouldn't really work. If I then get in trouble, and have a crash, and this is in an area which requires chains, I am s... out of luck.

I guess I'll have to find a set of 19" rims then. They are just so darn expensive here in Switzerland, and buying them in England (via Ebay) is near impossible as most Ebayers will not ship to Switzerland.
