Having just sailed past 6000 miles I was wondering if many owners have had an oil change despite it not being time for a service at a similar mileage?

I think I might be getting anal about it, afterall, if LR have said 12 months or 15,000 miles then who am I to question it? L319 D4 HSE

Had mine changed in our own workshop by our head fitter at 3000 miles and, still think one year or 15000 miles is too much currently at 8000 miles and will be doing it again soon. Its out there somewhere. Second V10 Treg on the drive at the moment.

Do you think same theory applies to the SC version tho? L319 D4 HSE

I should think it'll apply to most engines, new oil can never be a bad thing.
Got mine changed on the D3 along with the filter at 7.5k and running was noticeably smoother afterwards 

Oil changes can never hurt. The real benefit of more than recommended oil/filter changes is debatable. Of course, the oil changing industry wants you to do it as often as possible. Well, maybe at >200K miles it would make a "real" difference... but I don't see most owners keeping it that long.

Do the Euro RRS's use synthetic oil? I ask because the US oil/filter change recommendations are at every 7500 miles, NOT 15K

I plan on my first oil/filter change at 2500 miles; then I'll switch to Mobil 1 and change every 7500 miles as per LR instructions here.

I was told to use 5W30 fully synthetic oil, which over here relates to Castrol Magnatex.

Any suggestions for who I should get to do the oil change or could I do it myself armed with a new filter and lots of fresh oil? L319 D4 HSE

The haulage fleet for the company I work for are on long drain oils with change intervals of 6 months but very high mileage. Its out there somewhere. Second V10 Treg on the drive at the moment.

With the long service intervals on modern cars (due to the better oil technology), I've been a bit worried about the long interval of the first service on a new engine. On previous vehicles, I've done initial oil changes at around 7,000 miles.
However, I haven't bothered with the RRS, nor my new van. I don't think you'll ever get the benefit from spending the money. It might make the engine last a bit longer, but I doubt very much if there is a RRS driver here that will still have the same car at 150,000 miles. Why spend the money when you wont get the benefit? It wont make a scrap of difference to the resale value. As long as the service book is stamped up at the proper scheduled times and serviced by a LR dealer, no additional oil changes will improve the value. Matt

RRS ownership for 1 yr, then D3 for 2 yrs. Then cut back to old bangers and working my way back up through two Peugeots in 6 months. Now got Saab 9-5 2.3t and enjoying the performance!

Me too. DV8 needs to be good though, and I'll be looking to test drive the engine in the full size RR when it arrives, who knows, I may swap to that instead....just have to see. Hope they don't delay the Sport version though, hopefully it will handle better than the RR. L319 D4 HSE

Since the chassis of the Big RR is completely different and does not have dynamic response - I am sure the sport will continue to drive/ride better.
