Italy 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black
3rd Time lucky.....????? Hand brake stuck again!

Having decided not to sell the RRS, it thanks me by bloking the hand brake on the rear left wheel! this is the third time it has happened and considering the last time they changed the cable, discs, hub and jaws the only thing left to change now is the servo motor!!!

Hopefully this time the fix will sought it but I have to say as a safety note, if I didnt notice the slight vibration on the motorway and stop to check, I risked setting fire to the car!!!! as when I stopped it was sot hot it was smoking!!!

Does anybody know what are my rights, Can I demand them to make a report on a safety note as I am a bit worried that it may happen again.... Also, last time I mentioned this nobody else seemed to have had the same problem? still the case?

Any advise would be much appriciated!

Thanks,

Sacha - No idea what this could be but yes make sure your dealer aware you are worried about the safety aspect and get that in writing. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Didn't Tim have a similar thing happen to him once? Confused

Stick to the dealer until it's fixed Sacha, it's clearly not right.

Sacha, I had a problem with my Handbrake a few months ago.
Had to call out Land Rover Assist. The LR Assit guy told me it's a
common problem and that he had infact had one fail on him
whilst driving which had caused him to spin the car! Shocked
His advice was let the dealer fix it and then NEVER use the
handbrake. I have never enagaged it since. Once the car is
in Park on the gear selector it can't go anywhere anyway. 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

I had stopped using it as this problem had happened a few times, but our dog..... yes our dog managed to switch it on the day before while I was stopped!

Oh well! thanks for the notices, I will discuss it further with the dealer.... and not let the dog drive any more!

United States 2006 Range Rover Sport 4.4 V8 HSE Chawton White

A bunch of tech and special service bulletins have come out over time here in North America regarding EPB, including revised workshop / special service procedures for its correct installation directed at LR's own mechanics, so it must indeed be a reoccurring problem area. These won't probably help you much, but in order of "appearance" (these are LRNA bulletins but they should more or less match those issued in Europe):

Quote:
THIS SERVICE ACTION IS VALID FOR TWO YEARS. REPAIRS AND CLAIMS MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE 31 JULY 2009.
SERVICE ACTION BULLETIN #: Q45
DATE: 06 JULY 2007

SERVICE ACTION: Parking Brake Shoe Adjustment
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
LR3 (LA) VIN: 7A431787 to 8A444803
Range Rover Sport (LS) VIN: 7A105289 to 7A119896 and 8A107803 to 8A122795
CONDITION SUMMARY:
INCORRECTLY ADJUSTED PARKING BRAKE GAP AT ASSEMBLY
Situation: The parking brake shoes installed on a number of 2007 and 2008 MY Range Rover Sport and LR3 vehicles may have been incorrectly set during production causing insufficient gap between the brake shoe and drum. The reduced gap results in parking brake drag.
NOTE: All unsold LR3 and Range Rover Sport vehicles within the affected VIN range must be inspected PRIOR TO RETAIL SALE to ensure that the parking brake adjustment is correct.
Action: Unsold vehicles must have the park brake shoes adjusted prior to release of the vehicle for sale. Vehicles in the hands of customers must have the parking brake shoes checked and if indicated adjusted at the first service opportunity. Refer to the Repair Procedure below.

Title: Noise From The Parking Brake Drum / Shoe Drag.
Last Modified: 15-SEP-2008 08:40
Category: Chassis
Symptom: 302000 Parking Brake System
Content Issue: A customer may complain of a noise from the parking brake drum or shoe drag.
Cause: It has been noted that the shoe hold down clips can become over-stressed during fitting / maintenance procedures.

After fitting, or during any maintenance inspection, always check that the Parking brake shoes are being held against the brake back plate. If in doubt, fit new hold down clips. For Parking Brake Drum / Shoe drag issues, please also refer to Bulletin LTB00079v3.

Speaking of handbrake, I don't really use it that much... Just sometimes, if I park on a very steep road. As said, putting the selector on P is okay right?

I remember an LRE instructor once advising me that it wasn't worth ever engaging the EPB. Not sure if it's relieves any "strain" on the gearbox at all when engaged.
