better response and no smoke.....it is possible....read on

Hello Chaps,

after reading this thread on freel2..
http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic878.html?highlight=stroke+oil

I did a lot of reasearch on 2 stroke oil in diesel engines.
It seems our american cousins are already wise to the benefits of a drop of 2 stroke oil.

Anyway the science is well proven , it burns more completely than diesel , reduces engine smoke to virtually nothing , cleans the combustion chamber , it appears to lubricate the egr valves to close more evenly.
(I had a lazy egr valve one side but it's not lazy any more)

You can buy 2 stroke oil cheap enough on ebay , from wilkinsons or b+q.

I've used it for a few months now in my RRS and the wifes A4 tdi.
Much quieter when cold ,much better throttle response . no smoke unless I drive like a test pilot when I get a light haze from the pipes instead of the smoke I used to get.The throttle response is thebig difference.
It is more lively and the gearbox doesnt hunt up and down at all.

just 300mL of 2 stroke oil in a full tank really does give you wings.

I've got my dad using it in his Mitsi L200 navvy wagon , same story.
Neighbours ford focus , different motor!!
Mates escort diesel van 1.8 , much smoother +quieter.

Any questions ask away , I've had such success I thought it was my duty to report it.

I've done a fair bit of research for bulk buying , I wont post it as it might be construed as commercial posting.

It's such a small percentage of the full tank it can do no damage and dissolves completely.

I dont see how we can lose.

Good luck,

The original post by Yamaha Fan on freel2 has been discussed in great detail over there on various threads

he defiantly knows his stuff when it comes to diesel and 2 stroke oil Thumbs Up

Still I haven't bothered yet, mainly as I'm too lazy to get a bottle out and measure 300ml in, when I'm in my suit etc

Like BigMart says I have heard the benefits are great too Thumbs Up

Not a bad idea BigMart, and something I'd consider doing. The only thing that might put me off would be if this could damage the catalytic converter,(as manufacturers say not to run with certain additives or an engine that is burning oil, thus contaminating some precious metal in them)..... perhaps too early to tell? RRS TDV8 Buck Blue (no, not now in my dreams). ..........D3 TDclankety clankV6 ............BMW 318i

Though it might be best to point out which 2 stroke is needed Thumbs Up

One quick addition: if we speak of 2-stroke oil to be added to the diesel fuel it MUST be a 2-stroke oil of low ash content, such as Liqui Moly No. 1052 (1 liter bottle) or Meguin semi synthetic. NEVER use fully synthetic 2-stroke oil, besides the cost). 2-stroke oil has very similar chemical properties as diesel oil, and this is the reason why diesel and 2-stroke oil do not mix but compound (if I have used the right word). Once diesel and 2-stroke oil have chemically compounded, you cannot seperate them again.
2-stroke oil will increase the OZ-value (Oktan) of diesel oil by 3 to 5 points (OZ=x*OZ("2-T oil) + (1-x)* OZ (diesel fuel)).

Hi Tim,

Customs couldnt and wouldnt object to 300ml of oil addititive in 80 litres.

If you used red 2 stroke they can tell by chemical marker that it is NOT red diesel.

other colours are available , blue (b+q) green , muddy brown and red.

I think by volume they regard up to 5% concentrations as additives so the less than 0.5% is no problem.

Hi RBR,

good question , the oil selection is quite simple.

2 stroke oil has a "JASO" rating .

JASO FA ,or FB , or FC ,or FD (the best)

you must use FB or better.

It gets better after 3 tanks in my experience.

mix ratio 200:1 (400ml in 80 litres).
You can run richer if you like you wont do any damage .

B+Q have a smokeless oil on sale at the moment £5.50 per litre JASO FD rated , lovely stuff.
If you have a wilkinsons near you you will find own brand 600ml bottles for £1.99 (FB , still ok)

It is usually expensive from a garage or halfords , if you find any good value sources let us all know.

Good luck

Tim in Scotland: You have paid duty on the two stroke oil so the revenue won't be bothered.

on a practical note, can you pour the oil into the tank without using a funnel or tube? Isn't it a bit awkward doing this at a filling station? Stornaway Grey/Ebony TDV8 HST, September 3rd Smile

good question,
what I do , now I have several empties.... Whistle is to measure out the 400ml or so at home and then carry that with me.
I can now tip it in without worrying about measure.

one of my neighbours uses a small funnel with a piece of hosepipe on the bottom , an elegant solution but a bit of a faff 'cos the pipe drips afterwards.

I'm doing some research into a group buy for some low cost high spec oil.
More details when I get any further.

I'm tempted to try it as well, but I'm afraid messing up electronics... Modern day engines are quite sensitive and got lots fo sensors... Is there someone using the 2-stroke oil for some time that can give some feedback about this? Thanks.

England 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

I have tried this for my last 2 tankfuls,, went to Ashford in Kent on Thursday,,,, a 500 mile round trip , I recorded 33.9 mog average, and that was driving as fast as possible,,, eg 50,60, up to 90 where possible.
I told one of my employees on Friday, and he turned up at work today with a 26 Litre drum of 2 stroke oil !!!

So this morning we filled all my trucks with diesel, and then added 50ml oil 2 stroke /10l of diesel , I shall report back next week what happens , we generally fill each truck with diesel every other day, so they will each have had 3 fills by next week, these trucks are worked very hard, and always are fully loaded, going up big hills in and around Sheffield. 08 HSE,5%TINTS, Factory tow bar, brum ,brum
