Hi Guys,

I'm new to the site and I'm about to take the plunge and buy a used RRS. An 05 supercharged version seems like good value at the moment with main dealers around asking around £25k for examples with about 25-30k miles on the clock. I really need to go the main dealer route as I don't much fancy taking on a car i know nothing about without a warranty!

So given the current economic climate, how much do you recon I should be offering? Do you think 10% below the stated price is a little low? (cash buyer, no part ex).

Any advice would be grately appreciated.

Also any info on just how good a LR dealer warranty is would be great!

Hi,

you must remember the term "cash buyer" doesn't carry any weight.....in fact they (stealers) prefer you to finance vehicles as they make money on that aspect as well.

My advice.....go in low, the worst is they'll say no! then you go away come back and up the bid. If you go in too high and its accepted you'll never know if you could have got it for less.

If he's asking 25K say 20K here and now, quick and easy sale, you never know you're luck......or at least its a starting point for negotiations!

For a 2005 S/C, check that it isn't a 1st edition model................................... there were,worlwide, 500 special intro cars with an enhanced spec and one special colour - Vesuvius Orange - as well as Java Black and Zambesi Silver, they are worth a tiny bit more than a standard S/C but don't let a dealer tell you they are something very special because, unless they are the Vesuvius Orange car, they are not very special!
However I would say that any 2005 S/C is not worth more than £20k in these hard times, and possibly less if in poor condition. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Looks like I may be looking at 55/06 model in that case!

Yes a difficult economic climate for the dealers as well.

Now if you were in a restaurant and the waiter brought you the bill, you would not reduce the bill by 10%, your more likely to pay the asking price and leave a 10% tip, now why not do that at the dealership, you would be guaranteed good service next time you call in

haha...fair point but I think if you are looking for tips you're in the wrong business! In any case tipping before good service is usually a mistake in my experience...

...yeah, but there's so little and there's F g insulting. If you buy a £60k car and 2 years later get offered £20-25k for your car against an identical car, that, even in Mr thicko-wickos book, is NOT a good deal. It's a plain insult.

That car would be retailing at £30k plus and higher if we were still in the good times

Either LR drop their prices or I can seea whole host of people hanging on to their existing cars. That or make the part-ex prices realistic.

When i was last in i was offered a PX on my TDV6 for a TDV8 with all the toy's and you guy's where gonna make a very good margin How things have changed i guess?  RRS TDV6 Gone but still around

I don't think the list price on the LR website of £55095 OTR for a TDv8 HSE is less than the Sept 2007 list £54000 for the 2008MY car I bought .................................. seems to me that RRS Tdv8 HSE is now £1095 more expensive, but maths was never my strong point
