20" STORMERS How do you Spot Authentic from Replicas ?

Just curious been looking on eBay, how can you tell if 20" Stormers are the real OE ones or the cheaper replicas. I have an old RRS accessories brochure and the 20" stomer wheels have a part number of RRC503820MCM.

Obviously it's easy for someone to say these are genuine Land Rover OE manufactured wheels NOT replicas - but how do you know for sure ?

Do the real wheels have the part number cast into the wheel Question
Do the replicas have the same part number cast into the wheel Whistle

Cheers Thumbs Up

I believe that only real wheels have Land Rover logos and part numbers cast into the rear of the spokes. Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

This is correct of course, but unless you can see the alloys for yourself, you have to put the trust in the Ebayer to either be honest or provide evidence Wink

I bet 90% of RRS's with Stormers are in fact replicas.....buy a set of replicas and have a weekend away with the money you save Wink

Not to be rude or anything, but the original aren't supposed to be made by Land Rover instead of some italian company?
Gotta check mine, even if I'm quite sure they're original, since the car has been ordered with Stormers at the dealer...

You'd be surprised how many parts in your Land Rover are not made by LR! Smile
I don't think any car manufacturer makes their own wheels though. Wink

Happy checking. Thumbs Up Malaysia Boleh!

You can also identify fake stormers without taking them off the vehicle as they usually have a cheap paint finish. The genuine Land Rover wheels have a sparkle finish. The fakes are usually just silver paint - unless they are OEM not supplied through LR.

For those that doubt it compare the two side by side - then the difference is glaringly obvious

The same goes for Overfinch wheels - the fakes I have seen look just that - fake!

makes me chuckle everytime I see an expensive vehicle with fake wheels on - nearly as bad as a poor fake Rolex

the replicas often have a small stamp in between two of the spokes. to make them replica's rather than identical copies. the originals are smooth between the spokes Go where I want Knot Where I'm Told !!!!!!

Ah, but you're the Bobby that usually post lots of .pdf about technical details of the RRS... In that case, no need to doubt about your findings! Thumbs Up

Guys,

Many thanks for all your replies especially Bobby for those excellent pictures Thumbs Up

I guess ebay is OK if you collect them in person, if they are not as advertised you can walk away w/o parting with any cash.

I think on an item like this, it's a bit too risky hoping they'll be ok when arriving by post.

Cheers Very Happy

Not that but its just that I bought my car with the 20" Stormers and I am very sure they were fitted in LR UK. I saw the car being driven out of the port into the dealers here. They had these same wheels! Wink

I took off my wheel just to take the pictures, so I'm pretty sure they are the originals ones supplied by LR UK.
Until and unless LR UK has taken me for a ride.... Shocked Malaysia Boleh!

Hi Jammy,
you cant go wrong with genuine wheels , you have almost £1000 worth of continentals alone.

The continentals do however wear quite fast compared to hankooks or toyos.

Ive driven a rrs with hankooks on , super quiet , very grippy and almost twice the wear rating of conti's......
AND under a hundred pounds poer corner , toyos the same but 120-150 per corner.

I have a set of contis on mine right now , If I stare at them I can watch them wear out .. Shocked

The wheel package is a safe bet if a little expensive.

I'd offer £1000 and try to settle somewhere in between.

Good Luck.
