United States 2006 Range Rover Sport 4.4 V8 HSE Giverney Green
Tire size question

I am considering purchasing a set of Pirelli Scorpion Zero's (Size) 275 55 19. http://saltlakecity.craigslist.org/pts/814667421.htmlI am concerned about the size, as the overall diameter is 30.9" compared to the 255 50 19's OD of 20.9".

Additionally, I will be using these in the snow. I checked the "reviews" on Tire Rack's site and their snow performance was mixed. However, the overall rating was "very good'

As always, thanks for your feedback Thumbs Up

I’m currently locked in a dilemma over tyres for my 19” rims too. I want to get something “mildly knotty” for occasional off road excursions, but that will be good on the road too. But all the tyres that would do the job are in a 55 aspect ratio rather than a 50.

Have look here at this tyre size calculator …….

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

It shows that a 255/55 19 will throw out your speedo by 3.5%.

Meaning that at a speedo reading of 60Mph you will actually be doing 62.1Mph !!!

Not a huge difference granted, but one that’s enough to put me off. I prefer to keep things the way they are supposed to be. So I may have to source a set of 18” rims.

Your speedo isn't that accurate anyway. 255/55/19 is the size used by LR for their G4 RRSs, so no need to worry. The little extra sidewall helps when you go off-road.

True the 55x19 is used on the G4 RRS.

But I vaguely recall reading somewhere that the car may have to be plugged into the diagnostics machine to upload the new wheel / tyre set up.

Given that the D3 & the RRS are essentially the same car, sharing amongst many other things, the same electronics & a 255/55 19 tyre is a standard fit on the D3, whereas the a 255/50 19 isn’t. But yet the D3’s speedo reads ok with the higher tyre on. It could perhaps just be as simple as getting the dealer to “inform” the car that a 55 aspect ratio tyre is fitted.

So it’s quite conceivable that when the G4 RRR’s are fitted with the MTR’s the software is updated accordingly.

I must look into that.
