No transmission overhead as we measure power at flywheel.

The biggest problems with any dyno graph is that is only as good as the operator, air temperature and density on the day, quality of fuel and the integrity of the calculations.

I myself have witnessed reputable dyno set ups having figures 'manipulated' to sell additional products to customers such as filters, exhausts and sadly engine chips!!

Dyno results should be taken with a big pinch of salt Wink

I am impressed you've had the engine out ! Do you do that for all the cars you tune or is it just the RRS. It's to get power at the flywheel but I am surprised you go to so much trouble. We have had a TD6 on a water dyno but we specialise in them - must be a pain with all the different cars/trucks etc you tune.

Please correct me if I'm wrong TC.

Paul

And me but that isn't what TC told me

This was my original question:-

"TC

Out of interest what percentage transmission overhead are you using on the dyno to arrive at the figures quoted (ie waht reading do you get at the wheels) do you reckon most are using the same. Could explain why there are some crazy power claims from some people."

What company did the dyno testing for you on tdv6? I have been looking for somebody for sometime to get flywheel figures for a few projects using a dynamometer..the nearest to me is at least 350miles away and they are using the dynomite gear...thx

TC,
I said "Please correct me if I'm wrong TC" so why would I accuse you of lying ? Confused

But why would you want to take the engine out ? Surely not simply to get flywheel figures ? RRS TDV8 - Stornoway Grey, Irory Leather with Dark Zebrano, Privacy Glass, Tow Pack.

RRMAD,

TDV6 was our 1st engine out project...we usually tune the usual way everyopne else does..on a dyno with transmission losses 'allowed' for.

Also, it would be helpful to forum members if you identified your tuning company background.

TOTAL,

If you PM me with the engine spec you wish to dyno I can put you in touch with one of two companies I have worked with...one in Cheshire and one in Essex...both less tham 350 miles from you..hope that helps

I also understand JE may have engine dynos available to use? Chips with everything
