2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 S Buckingham Blue

Off Road Ride height

I have had my RRS TDv6 for approx 2 months and have had 4wds of various makes for approx 25 years. In recent years they have mainly been Toyotas but my first 4wd was a LR series 1 !!. So my RRS is not just a bitumen tractor, but is used in the bush and on the beach.

I have enjoyed the sophiticated drive of the RRS and have no regrets (so far) moving from a Japan to UK vehicle. I do have one complaint - why does the Off Road drive height lower once you go over approx 40 Km/PH ?? This is ridiculously low particularly when driving on the beach. For beach driving in soft sand you often need speed to give you momentum, and when the suspension drops down this works against you by scraping your belly on the sand.

I appreciate there may be rollover issues on bitumen but you could hardly roll at 40 k.

Question - Can LR or some software expert change the 40k setting or is this threshold set in concrete ???

A question Turbochip could answer no doubt as they are talking about lower on road ride at 50mph on the D3 which lowers at 100mph. Presumably it would be similar.

Agreed, it would be good if you could lock it at the off road height, as you can in my dad's P38 RR. L319 D4 HSE

I would like to see the RRS drop to access height automatically everytime it is put in to park.

although the air compressor might fail a lot more if that was the case..
but saying that everytime i park mine up it is lowered!

Everyone of my mates have asked me whether the suspension drops when you're on the motorway to increase handling capabilities.. i also asked this question on the test drive and think its silly that u can't lock it up/down.

That'll never happen due to safety concerns... just tap the access toggle a minute or so before you park. How hard is that?

Above 100mph it does! (assuming it is the same as D3)

Yes, it does. The engineers went through great effort to design the vehicle to maintain stability and safety in as many scenarios as possible, and as such... you lose a bit of the manual control some people enjoy.

i believe i read that in the manual that when your at 100mph or faster it automatically goes into SPORT MODE which lowers your car for aerodynamic purposes.....correct me if i'm wrong..... '06 RRS SC BLACK ON BLACK ON BLACK 22' HRE'S

Yes, you're right. Its an automatic action. If the vehicle is travelling faster than 100mph (160kph) for more than 5 seconds, it will lower by about 20mm (0.8 inch).

If you slow down to below 80 mph (130 kph) for more than 30 seconds, it will return to normal height. Malaysia Boleh!

I don't know about whether it's access height, but my RRS SC always psst's after I park, usually after I lock the vehicle, and it lowers, without any other switches being hit.

At first the almost-farty sound was a little disturbing, but I guess it is awfully convenient. I don't think it's full access height (I guess I'll measure it the next time I have a few minutes), but it is definitely lower than "normal."

I've heard other references to this; am I the only one?

Also, I often lower the vehicle to access in order to park in underground garages (well, I used to do this on the big-brother RR, the RRS is not that tall), and then lock the height adjustment. This (I think) prevented an automatic adjustment upon drive-off. Does locking the height up work in the RRS? The RR would bing and say speed max 25 mph, but it wouldn't change the height.

I too get the Ppssstttt sound of air leaving the suspension after leaving/locking the car. I also noted this in the dealer/loan Disco3 that i have just had. So I guess its a common occurence.
