Knocks when turning the wheel?

Our 2006 S/C Sport has developed a knocking sound, it happens primarily when doing low speed maneuvers and turning the steering wheel. I tried using the search function but there has been so many issues with knocking and rattles coming from the front suspension area that I am plain confused. Has anybody had a similar problem? I am worried because I need to take a 600 km drive and don't know if it is safe to do it in the Range (dealer is at the far end of the 600km). There was a major car accident where I live about two days ago- a RRS veered off the road for no apparent reason killing all three passengers. It gave me the chills and made me think that a steering problem could have caused it.

btw our Range has been to the dealer for knocks from the suspension when going over bumps but I believe that was rectified by replacing some parts. That was 3-4 months ago and the Dynamic Response hasn't knocked since. 2006 Java Black S/C

The knocking is probably the most reported issue on this site. There is no definite solution, although some of the solutions you have read about should at least be tried - they seem to work in the short term for some people.

As for your local RRS veering off the road and killing all three passengers.... that could have been for any number of non-mechanical reasons too, couldn't it? It's not a reason to stop driving yours Very Happy

Could be the Dynamic knock - no cure or could just be that the steering bumps need adjusting so that the wheels don't touch on full lock or your bushes need doing again.

Either way I doubt that it would cause the accident you are describing. That sounds like over zealous driving led to a departure from the highway. MY08 RRS TDV8 HSE, Stornoway Grey, Ebony and Zabrano, sunroof, hybrid tv, premium ICE, rear E diff, privacy glass, side steps, mud flaps, S/Grey mirror covers, Venture shield, tasmods, smoked indicators, Larini sports exhaust, etc, etc.

It doesn't happen in access only, it occurs in normal ride height too. Its not the steering bumps as it doesn't happen in full lock only but also when turning a little. Also the steering bumps were greased when I had the dynamic response knock rectified. It is more of popping (4-5 pops) than knocking sound, I have a feeling it is steering related but I am not 100% on this.

p.s. as for the accident a driver behind reported that the Range suddenly turned right and flew off the highway for no apparent reason...could be many things but still... 2006 Java Black S/C

Sound like you will have to take the 600km drive to the Dealer. Or find one closer before you go. MY08 RRS TDV8 HSE, Stornoway Grey, Ebony and Zabrano, sunroof, hybrid tv, premium ICE, rear E diff, privacy glass, side steps, mud flaps, S/Grey mirror covers, Venture shield, tasmods, smoked indicators, Larini sports exhaust, etc, etc.
