Would you use bio-diesel if it was ok?

Hi all,

I was just wondering how many people would put bio-diesel in their RRS if was ok to use.

I know it's been discussed but I thought I'd bring it up again.

I've been seeing how my brother makes bio-diesel and it does seem quite easy.

I know Land Rover state only 5% but i'm going to try and find out more from them direct! P**sing in the wind i know but you never know.

I may have accidently put 35 liters in and no issues Whistle

I'd use it in a shot!!

It used to be said of older discos that the rubber feed pipes were the problem....

I think LR want us to shy away from Biodiesel because they know we'll be tipping in all sorts of crap if we think it's safe.

I do beleive the injectors are the problem.Theye are so de;icate the fuel has to be VERY clean and thin to work properly. some bio is much thicker.
The truck boys get around it with extra filters and a fuel heater. I doubt it would be worth it unless you were doing a massive mileage.

LR won't risk approving a fuel mix that might wear out our very expensive injectors.

We need an injector expert.
I think I met someone at a trade show who might know a bit more than us.

Any injector gurus??

Yes, absolutely without hesitation.

The trick is knowing the bio-diesel is OK as frankly the QA on it is going to be shaky at best unless produced commercially IMHO

Edited to add: No disrespect to your brother Gus, its just that some of the problems may be caused by things in the bio invisible and undetectable to the small qty producer, thats my worry.... Cheers

I'm led to believe that however good the QA is, biofuel contains much larger particles than a standard diesel fuel so it's not a case of IF it clogs your injectors, but WHEN.

As others have said, biofuel would definitely have a much larger user base if the average guy producing it in his garage could ensure higher quality.

I understand that Morrission diesel is 35% bio-diesel and they have a big disclaimer somewhere saying it is your responsibility to check your vehicle can run on it.

If you dont see this and your vehicle can't then its off to the dealers for a big bill Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Gas, grass or ass - nobody rides for free!!

Fully agree, but most supermarkets have some bio-diesel in their diesel - not normally above 5% but even this could affect warranty work on some vehicles Exclamation Exclamation Gas, grass or ass - nobody rides for free!!

It may have something to do with the change in performance/mpg that lots of folk on here comment on - especially when using supermarket fuel as opposed to Shell/BP/Esso etc Question Gas, grass or ass - nobody rides for free!!

I would have thought that the disclaimer would have to be pretty big and bold otherwise it could lead to an unprecedented amount of litigation for any supermarket.

Also lose them repeat custom at the pumps AND the store. 06 RRS TDV6 HSE, Java/Ebony, PTI, Running Boards, Privacy, S/C Grille/Vents, Stormers, Tasmods, Black Badge Soon...
