Has anyone been thru the above in their RRS i am coming across at the end of january and wondered if there is anything special for the RRS. Height restrictions, extra charges etc.......I am a bit paranoid about running into something...it's my first 4x4.

Andrew, no problems at all, Max height is 1.85. rrs is well bellow that.Have been through several times, no worries and always used single carriages

1.85m? Handy to know, remind me never to try and take the D3 on the Chunnel

There's a double height carriage they use for lorries .. if you're car is too tall they normally stick you in there.. (did with us anyway in a Shogun LWB, though i think it would have fitted anyway !) 996 TT & RRS 2.7TDV6 HSE.

I think you can take your car even if it's over 1.85 - I've been over in a car with a roofbox (not the RRS) before which has made the car much taller than me (and I'm about 1.94m I think) and there were no problems.

Beware - you might be using a roof box, if so it might not fit. When you park up put your RRS into access mode otherwise whilst the train is moving the car will try and correct itself all the time, running the battery down. (Or that's what I've been told) 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

thanks to all for your replies, just remember the height restriction barrier when you enter the queues for the train......always seemed a bit low to me.

Anyway, no roofbox so into the normal carriage......

If you have a roof box or higher vehicle ie lr3 then you will go through the high vehicle lane, and go in the same carriage as the coaches.

I got back only 2 weeks ago - got my D3 HSE into a standard carriage on the way out - access height just gets you under (although the HSE with Alpine roof is slightly lower than S or SE. You literaly squeeze under the height test barrier before going into the standard car lane (saved me a few quid!!!)
Should have seen the looks on peoples faces - lots of anicipation for the grinding crunch!! (I had a spotter walk me through!)

Slightly different on the way back though, the test barrier is lower so had to go into the full height carrige lane but luckily didn't get charged!!!

On the charging point - don't buy the flexible ticket - it is a rip off, you only really need it for the return trip anyway (if you can't estimate your time to get to the tunnel UK side then you need shooting!)
We were 4 hours from Calais and over 3 hours ahead of plan on returning - rang up the number on the back of the ticket, spoke to a very nice lady and she booked us onto a train going 2 hours earlier. We got there in the end 3.5 hours ahead of plan, checked in and they just directed us straight onto the train with 10 mins to spare!!!!! THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THEY CHARGE FOR THE FLEXIBLE FARE IS BAD ENOUGH BUT WHEN YOU THEN DON'T ACTUALY NEED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Currently: Carbon Black 535d

Slimer has an expedition roof rack on his D3 so not a lot of chance of him getting under the barrier.

TRY AND GET ON THE UPSTAIRS DEC THE VIEW IS MUCH BETTER
