OK. An update on this subject, at least from my experience. I too had the knocking...bad. Dealer tested and suggested ball joints were the issue. Ball joints replaced and now the "knocking" is gone. There is still a small "knocking like" sound that I can barely hear. Dealer advised that dry ball joints are the problem and they will be updated soon, new models and us getting them fixed, with "wet" ball joints. I guess this means "greasable". Either way the dealer advised I'd probably need new ball joints every 6 months regardless of how I drive the car.
