Help...TDV6 or 4.2 Supercharged?

Hi Guys & Girls,

I'm currently trying to decide which of these I should go for. I drove the Supercharged variant for the first time on Sunday and absolutely loved it but the only thing that scares me is the fuel consumption which is where I'm hoping someone on here will be able to help me.

I will be using the RR Sport for my daily commute to and from work which is only about a 20 min journey either way. I average about 7000 miles a year. What sort of monetary difference should I expect in going for the petrol version over the diesel?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Put in simple terms and as a ball-park figure you can expect an average of 10 - 15mpg with S/C (Dependant on driving style and urban/motorway mix) Vs 22 - 26 (From my TDV6) again based on mixed driving.

Taking this into account over 7k miles you will use the following (Based on ave between two mpg figs):

S/C = 560 gallons pa = 2,546 litres = c. GBP3,004 (1.18 per ltr Source:AA)

TDV6 = 292 gallons = 1,327 litres = c.GBP1,738 (1.31 per ltr Souce: AA)

Therefore theoretically you would save somewhere in the region of GBP1,200 p.a

So you're not as stupid as you look Super Laughing

Gixerbloke, there's no escaping the fact that the SC has a drinking problem, but with low mileage... you've got to ask yourself is the joy of having the SC worth an extra £1200 for your 7k miles. That's a lot of money for only 7000 miles. Have you considered the TDV8 and getting it chipped? Much better economy with near SC performance... all you're missing is the wonderful noise (even though the TDV8 sounds great in itself).

Gixer, re chipping I suggest you read the thread 'LR Policy letter unauthorised power upgrades' before considering this option.

I am not saying either way whether it is a good thing or a bad thing.

Hmmm, 26mpg from TDV6? Definitely not for me.

15mpg from S/C? Not sure how many on here are averaging that but I may be (Probably am Laughing ) wrong Thumbs Up Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Re: Help...TDV6 or 4.2 Supercharged?

Thanks PauloAmore

That has made the s/c a whole lot more tempting now Very Happy I think I can live with a difference of £800 pa

What sort of range should I expect on a full tank of fuel doing only urban driving?

Mine shows 15.4 or something. A mix between urban and country roads.
Probably as low as 12 in town, driven with a careful right foot.

I had my Supercharged from 2005 for 18mths ..... I live/work 5mins apart ... so the worst case... my mpg hardly changed 14.9 - 15.3mpg ... I like to slam that right foot down a lot too... didnt appear to make mutch difference. I would say if outright purchase is not an issue - go for it. But boy , do they lose money Big Cry
