Surfing the net on any mobile costs an arm and a leg. unless of course you are able to connect via a wifi hot point - and I dont trust thier security.

I still think you pay too much for an iphone and it doesn't do much more/less than most ...that have been doing most things well for a long time now. Granted it does look good Cool

If they could incorporate an autofocus 7mpxl camera with xenon flash - dvd like quality video as well. . . . . then yippee , at last the perfect looking/performing gizzmo Thumbs Up

What is the deal with the iPod touch & internet access ??

Is it just Wi-Fi so you either have to find a free of charge hot-spot, or pay for access such as in a hotel or at an airport ??

Or can you put in a 3G sim & use it for data only ??

Looking at it on the Apple Store web site, it seems to have the icons for maps & weather just like the phone, as well as safari & mail. But if you were limited to where you can get free access on a wi-fi network, it would be very restrictive & frustrating I would think. ’08 RRS SE TDV6 – Java - Alpacca - Zebrano –

If I remember it's only the new iPhone that does 3G anyway isn't it?

MDP.....

That’s a bummer about the iPod touch requiring a Wi-Fi network for internet access.

Free Hotspots are few & far between around here. So I think that would drive me nuts.

shmoogle......

Yeah the new iPhone is 3G, whereas the previous version uses Edge.

BTBH, I have an O2 usb modem for my broadband, as I can't get wired BB here at home. But sometimes I switch to GPRS or EDGE instead of 3G when it's very busy & I find the Edge to be more robust.

Slower granted than the 3G, but there's not a lot wrong with it.

However I think you will only be able to buy the new version iPhone from the 11th on, with no option for the older version being available. ’08 RRS SE TDV6 – Java - Alpacca - Zebrano –
