It happened early this morning. It must have been a planned job. They broke the back patio door, grabbed the key from a tray in the hallway, then just drove off. Nothing else was taken. I thought i heard something,but assumed my housemate had just dropped something.

Will there be any hiccups with the insurance? Could it be classed as negligance leaving your key near the door? Sorry to add further worries but I've heard similar before.

This is a very common way for cars to be stolen... break into the house to steal nothing but the car key, especially if they can be seen through a window etc. Sorry to hear it mate... let us know how the police/insurance activity goes.

Sorry to hear this mate, this happened to me a few years ago. My car was stolen the same way and it was found a year later in Jamaica!

Its horrible knowing someone was snooping round your house whilst you were there but you should be thankful that no one was hurt and it didnt get ugly.

Don't think you have a problem with the insurance as they still forced entry.

One of the lads on Freel2 had his stolen the same way over new year, and they sold it back to a landrover dealer

For some reason it was written off too

Ive had 2 cars stolen in the past, know what it feels like mate, as well as the inconvenience.

Somone tried the breaking in trick on me 2 years ago. They have not been back. But then their car would have been drafty with no windows in.  You don't stop playing because you get old, You get old because you stop playing.

Sorry to hear this, but yes it appears to be one of two ways to easily steal a high value immobilised motor. The other being hijacked.

As already said this is an ever increasing problem especially up in manchester as we are getting more and more calls from customers (we are locksmiths) to change locks on houses following break ins where cars are stolen as people usually have there house keys on the same bunch.

We cover the whole of the north west and are dealing with anything upto 5 or 10 a week the same as this

I have installed a CCTV system at home and already seen a scumbag checking out the car at 3am so an electric gate is going in as we speak to keep the RRS and my vans behind
