Hi Guys,

Just received a letter from LR about a safety related recall affecting 2005/6 model year Disco3, RR and RRS with auto transmision.

Possible problem when gear selector in "P" (park) that park may not be engaged. If the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle may roll away.

They recommend using the parking brake until the modification is carried out.

They expect the work to take 3 hours.

I haven't noticed my car rolling away but I'll certainly be using the P brake from now on.

Every thing had been going so well: but this will be a good excuse to get to the dealer's and drool over new cars.

1. I always use the parking brake anyway so no difference to my routine
2. I need no more excuses to visit the dealership!

i wonder,
My car has actually rolled once, thought it was me baing daft but now that I think about it, I hads the keys in my hand at the time so it should not have been rolling any where.
Oh no not a recall  Its out there somewhere. Second V10 Treg on the drive at the moment.

Hmm... I wonder do they mean roll as in if you put it on a hill and it would roll as if in neutral? I've noticed the RRS, does jog forward somewhat after you've put it in park and taken your foot off the brake. This is something you see a lot of american cars do (in films etc) but I've never owned a car with an auto box that's actually done that. You can stop it by applying the parking brake before you take your foot off the brake.

Anyone else get that? Of course, using the parking brake should be habitual anyway but I do know some professional drivers that suggest not ever using the handbrake in cars with auto boxes. Not sure why they'd say that...

every auto car I have ever driven has done the same thing too. The movement is from the slack being taken up in the drivetrain such as gearbox and diffs.

None of the auto BMWs I've owned previously have done something like this quite so visibly as the RRS does it. I guess it's not anything to do with the recall fault.... maybe the effect is magnified in such a top heavy car. 

My RRS was "quarantined" (according to the dealer) before they could deliver - 4 day delay, all I could do was look into the window and wait like a proud father waiting for his new child to come home from the hospital.

Nonetheless - Father and child are both home safer and happy.  Adam

Need to book in for the work required. Although I havnt experienced any issues engaging P without using the parkbrake as well

In the second recall, 200 other coil-sprung Discovery 3 cars, as opposed to those with air suspension, have been found to have been supplied with the wrong type of jack. The vehicles need a screw and bottle-type jack instead of the scissor design which has been provided, and can cause an unladen vehicle to become unstable when lifted for a wheel change.

Land Rover says there have been no reports of owners having experienced either of the potential faults, and so no accidents or injuries as a result.

Are these the earlier cars built ???

Don't know - mine is a very early build as I bought it off the dealership floor on launch day and I haven't had any recall notice................ yet!
LR must be using the DVLA and LR's own records to trace the VIN numbers and contacting only those affected by it. A Carbon Footprint is the mark a lump of coal makes when it's dropped on the ground.

Speaking of build date, is there a label somewhere on the Sport that indicates it? My old Volvo had a tag inside the driver doorsill with build month and year. I looked on all four doors and in the engine compartment, but couldn't find one.

Edit: Never mind, I found it... (06/05) Had the car at the dealer yesterday, no recalls for mine.
